Left arm at impact

This may be a silly question but should the left arm be TOTALLY straight at impact. I'm still hitting the ball on the toe as stated in another thread"hitting on the toe" and in the living room this morning I noticed my left arm has just a wie bit of bend in it(at impact position). Maybe 5 degrees max and when I totally straighten it the club head moves out about half an inch. Am I on to something or is this just ramblings of a mad man?

I don't think the arms become totally straight until after the ball is hit, when the momentum of the club is be be swung to the follow-through position.

alot of people bend there left arm a little, and dean reinmuth actually professes it if your not that flexible (everytime he is on the golf channel i just turn it off). the way i look at it if you had a straight left arm at address and then it is bent at impact you have just like you discovered shortened the length from your shoulder to the ball. So some kind of compensation has to be made to get that 1/2 inch back. Most average golfers make too big an armswing and bend there left elbow a little, i call it a false backswing because their hands are far enough back where it feels like a full turn but their shoulders and hips havent turned much. try making a slow swing in front of mirror keeping your left arm straight when it starts to want to bend stop and see where you are, probably plenty of arm swing maybe not enough body turn.

True for right arm...

Ideally left will remain straight from start until after follow through, extensor action should help that.
