I know that one of my student's "spinout" was due to getting on his toes before impact...after impact he would return to his heels and "spin out"...

However, I presume there are many other causes...

That’s very possible; I do tend to get on my toes too much it’s a constant battle for me to not get on my toes. I have a bad lower back/hip (old football injury) and it helps alleviate some pain if I let my foot spin out. Honestly, I have a hard time maintaining my balance just trying to keep my foot a quarter turn out and belt buckle facing the target without swinging just trying to get in that position. I am in shape, flexible and a good athlete is it possible to not physically get into that position? I have notice some pga players spinout, Mickelson and Frazar come to mind.

Flare your left foot out a little bit at setup, make sure you are square or even open as well. Make sure your weight is in the balls of your feet. If you setup with too much weight in your heels you will move way on to your toes during the swing.

I have to disagree with the boys some...

You spin your left foot out because you don't have enough of YOU over the foot, and—like Ryan said—esp. the left heel, as you go through impact to the finish.

Jimmy,

I like turning the foot IN, which helps the student get more HIP SLIDE.

Try it, you'll like it.
