left hand grip - manzella neutral

Having a hard time matching up my left hand to the clubface, mostly with the driver and 3 wood for some reason. Take my grip at Fix and then check to see that the back of hand and clubface match (or the other way around)... all good, move back to near mid body hands, make a praccy swing... nope, it's gone. Even during a fairly slow-motion swing, at some point my left hand turns more on top of the shaft, stronger. Soon as I take a swing I re-check to see if the back of hand and clubface still match up, they never do. This problem doesn't really seem to come into effect with the irons tho, wierd.

I've had a lot of troubles for the last year or so with the driver going left. Almost at the point now where I'll just use a stronger left hand with the long clubs and angle hinge, getting sick of the left trees.

Anyone else have this problem? My hands are average size at most, but might larger grips help? It's soo frustrating because I reckon I have more control over the left hand than ever before, but the hand-clubface relationship changes from Fix to Impact. Feel like if I could sort this out I would be more accurate with the driver now than I ever have been before. Instead I hit it all over the shop :(

not sure if this is what's happening to you, but for me trying to hold the shaft under the lead hand little finger pad and not having it slip (at least partly ) into the crease at release on a full swing is next to impossible...i have given up trying and set-up at Fix with the shaft as it will end up (ie more in the crease) and then slip it under the pad which raises the clubhead and opens the clubface and makes it easier to take away...been hitting it pretty solid and hearing a lot of "clicks", which i never really have before...right now set up is my biggest issue...hope this makes some sense and helps...if not, ignore!

edited ps- in doing the above i actually "Fix" separation not impact...ie the clubface is square to the intended target line, not slightly open...putting the shaft back under the pad does the opening and "fixing" for impact

thanks for the replies.

hcw thanks a heap mate, you got me thinking and while I dont think my solution is the same as yours, I might have made a breakthrough. I was puting the heel pad on top of the shaft, but then sitting the grip sort of across the base of my fingers. Now I put the heel pad on top then make sure to wrap my little finger further around so that the grip is more in the palm than the base of the fingers. Feels awquard but I think this is what your meant to do. Played 18 holes today with the new grip, first nine I hit 8 shots to the right, none left and on the back 3 missed right and none left again. You little beauty!

no worries...sounds similar if not exact...describing these things is sometimes tough...in any case, sounds like it helped and that's what this place is all about!

ps-any idea why you were losing some right?

proly coz I'm used to allowing for a left wrist grip that was stronger at impact than address. If, at impact, I had the left wrist in my impact fix alignments but with that stronger grip, the ball was going nowhere but left, so I guess I developed compensations that every now and then sent the ball down the middle. Now those compensations send the ball right. So I need to learn to allow the left wrist to return to flat, level and vertical at impact. I got straighter and straighter over the 18 holes (played the last six holes 1 under), and am pretty bloody excited about this little breakthrough. Not a single pull hook! first time in over a year. the new grip will take a while to get used to tho, it just feels more comfortable letting the grip sit in the fingers.

cool...i think i now see what you were talking about with your grip...not quite what i was talking about, but hey, whatever works! (and w/ -1 on the last six, it seems to be working!)
