Left shoulder away from ball

Recently alot of concrete time honored swing tenets have been smashed by Brian as myths.I'm not argueing. I'm just trying to get comfortable with the ideas.
So one of the first ones is "getting that left shoulder as far away at impact from the ball".Now I always thought this as a hackers worst fault, spinning out of the shot.I in fact tried to do the opposite in my swing and hold the shoulders back.Probably why I swing too far right.

What is the benefit of incorporating this in the golf swing? If you don't do it what is the result?

Need some coconut juice.

1. Longer Moment Arm

2. Later Kinetic Chain Snap

3. Easier to follow a straight plane line.

4. Less fat shots.
