Leg drive and below plane syndrome

Hi there,

Been driving the ball pretty well lately but my iron shots have been pretty weak and straight right.

My natural tendency is a bit too much leg drive towards the target which gets my hands well ahead but the clubshaft below plane. From there i can't close the clubface quickly enough and it's high right's all day. Any thoughts on some appropriate drills to help rid me of this curse?

Many Thanks

I know a guy...

I played with a really good player in Baltimore who has lots of "old school" leg drive.

Leg Drive—The knees toward the target on the downswing (ala Jerry Heard, Tom Simpson, Tom Weiskoff) creating axis tilt, but no actual "drive." They didn't know any better when the phase was coined in the 60's.

He has a very strong left hand grip, and use the leg action to start the ball to the right and stay under the sweetspot some.

So, the point is, is, you need more of a closed face for this to work.

To remove the "leg drive," learn to bump slightly forward with your hips, and straighten left leg.

Also, your right shoulder needs to move TOWARD the plane line more, early in the downswing.
