Lesson with Brian -- 5/8/09

I debated on writing a long essay, but I'll put it in bullets.

-New Orleans is a great city! Great food, nice people, lots to do.

-English Turn is beautiful and very convenient to/from the city.

-Brian is a great guy. He gives it to you straight and doesn't pull punches but also relates to people very easily. He's a funny dude who likes to get down to the business of teaching golf.

-I'm striping the ball. I had a chance to go to the range tonight.

-Brian changed me in ways (alignments, pivot style) that I did not expect; and I've seen most every video he had made.

-Walked away feeling very happy with my experience.

Brian: Quick question. after a slow start today, I referred to my lesson notes. I noted that on my particularly good lesson shots my weight got cleanly onto my left foot.

I was able to duplicate that feeling by pushing off with my right foot hard rather than yanking from the left side. I kept all of the alignments, the start of the pivot, and the swing left as you taught me.

Is pushing off with the right foot cool? When I do it most traces of a hook disappear (which I think is what happens if I hang on my right side) and I absolutely crush the ball.

Below addresses a push with the left foot -- still wondering about the right foot.

"With your weight centered, use the left leg to help you push the weight OFF of that foot as you make a sharp turn of the right hip. FALL and SQUAT into your left leg. Using the ground, push UP off of that FOOT as your right hip moves TOWARD IT. Use this motion to get your left shoulder as FAR FROM THE BALL YOU CAN at impact. Keeping your hips left and your head back, let the motion of your arms PULL YOU to a FINISH with your right foot SPUN UP on the toe and your KNEES TOUCHING."
