Hi All,
Just got back from the show, and as always it was wonderful to catch up with Brian.
I spent some time with him, and Tom Bartlett on Tuesday, before the demo day. I feel I can articulate where I perceive him to be as far as coaches/teachers go. He transcends the Golfing Machine!!! Now before someone gets on their high horse, let me explain...
I believe Golfing Machine teachers to be the best group of teachers out there.
I think some try to teach as if TGM is a method, not a system.
I think some take a pattern, that MAY work for themselves, and try to teach it to almost everybody.
Some just don't understand it, and butcher it.
Some try to make a square peg go in a round hole.
The difference with Brian is his openness to individuals' patterns, and a desire to build on THAT pattern. He involves the human element in his teaching. He knows his stuff as good as anybody, but doesn't try to force feed you. He is tremendously entertaining and FUNNY(for those Aussies out there, you'll know how big a compliment that is for an Aussie to find an American funny[:0]
,very rare, very rare!)
As best as I could tell, Tom is on a similiar track to Brian, although with some 'stars alligning', he could be a player as most of the Orlando school could attest to. Ditto for Mike. And Janet and Jennifer were lovely.
As for the show...
I thought the new Callaway driver(X driver) was their best effort in about 10 years, particularly the sound;
I saw very little in the way of training aids, except those in Ben's Booth - yep, he took it over! Mat, Power Angle, and a wrist device(don't know the name-Tom got one);
I found an awful lot of simulators, fitness products, swing trainers, and the like where they expect you to spend a lot of money to POSSIBLY fix generally one aspect of the golfer's performance, and even then, good instruction should take care of the problem.
This may be my misinterpretation of the market, but some of these things could only benefit the top 1% of golfers.Interested in others' opinions on this...
What I felt was the biggest benefit, was meeting up with Brian, Tom, and Mike, Geoff Mangum, Ed Feeney, and a host of others, and riding the wave of information that is still very new to me.
Cheers all,
Damon
P.S For all you sensitive Americans, it is just a DIFFERENT sense of humour
