First off. . what's the difference?

I'm a newbie... so I'm not really sure of the terminology.

My question is Why do i hit the ball so high?
Even with my 3 or 4 iron, the ball goes really high
I've also hit some woods and those seem to go really high as well.
When I say high, I'm comparing to other player's I've seen hit.
Will I lose distance hitting it that high?

I usually set up the ball in the center of my stance? should I be hitting it close to the front of my stance?

Thanks

This is what you look like at impact (not exactly to this degree):

Your hands are BEHIND the clubhead. This is going to make you hit a lot of high, weak shots.

DON'T try to help the ball into the air. Hit DOWN on it. DOWN and OUT.

This is what you should look like at impact:

Flat left wrist/bent right wrist.

Swing thought: ROLL the knuckles (on your left hand) to the ground through impact. Knuckles DOWN, NOT UP.

To get the FEEL for proper impact, hit into an impact bag, heavy pillow, big bean bag, or something similar.

Sense your hands leading. Both hands go through impact at the same speed. To get quicker results, put the bag about a foot farther forward and still get the hands to lead the clubhead. You'll start to look like this:

This will train you to straighten the right elbow without straightening the right wrist. Once you get this grooved into your nervous system, you'll be playing a lot better. You'll start taking divots that start after the ball and your ball flight will definitely improve.

You probably have some form of this type of finish:

You finish like this because of your improper hand action. You have bad hand action because your ball position is too far back.

When your ball position is back it encourages you to stay on your trail foot and throw the clubhead past your hands.

Play the ball about 2 inches back off your left shoulder and shift your weight towards the target. Your weight should move in the direction the club is moving.
