There have been a plethora of posts about Brian's teachings (his lessons). I recently had a lesson with Damon Lucas at the Hayfields Golf Course and would like to comment on the facilities and my lesson with Damon.
Hayfields is a very beautiful course just North of Baltimore. I got lost looking for Damon and the pro shop and I wandered into the restaurant on the premises. It must have been an old house (or mansion) at some point. Inside it was very, very nice and had an distinct 'old world' or historic charm.
I didn't play any golf that day, but the practice chipping and putting greens are first rate. If they are representative of the golf course, then those that play there are indeed spoiled.
The lesson with Damon went well. He utilizes video, but he doesn't rely on it for the whole lesson. He shot some preliminary tape and made some comments. Then we worked on a few drills and he shot some more video of me doing the drills and in just 30 minutes we saw marked improvement.
Damon is a very affable and extremely knowledgeable instructor. I have attended a school (Orlando school) with Brian and also a Manziposium (a term coined by our own Damon Lucas) and I was very impressed with Brian's methods, drills, and ability to get the students on the right track fairly quickly. Damon was equally adroit at recommending drills that are easy to perform, but get to the root of the problem. For me I have some takeaway issues that lead to some path problems. Damon had me do a simple drill that forces me to work on path, club face control and aiming point.
For those of you that are in the Maryland/DC/Northern VA and/or Delaware areas, this is a great opportunity to work with two awesome people. Don't pass up the Baltimore school in early June.
best,
Erik
