Losing my drive

Hey all.

Well, here it is, Memorial Day weekend and I'm not playing golf, not hitting balls, and not practicing my putting. I am just flat burned out. I withdrew from the State Am qualifying tournament and I just can't seem to get that drive back that I had only a week ago. I worked with Brian a few weeks ago and the swing has a new feel along with a much better back swing, but I still can't make myself get back to work. I should be fired up and dying to hit balls and play. But it just ain't happening.

What do you guys do to recharge the battery? It's been 6 days since I touched my clubs and it might be a lot longer if I don't get some enthusiasm brewing.

I think watching the 1997 Masters always helps me "re-motivate." I know, weird, but seeing how determined a young Tiger Woods was is a pretty cool thing.

Getting Back into The Swing of Things.

Hey all.

The year was 2007. The month—October.

It was the very best year of my golf teaching career, with a great early 2008 scheduled.

My plan: Play golf 4 to 5 times a week, run about 10 miles a week, lift 3 days a week, redo my website and all my videos.

You know the rest.

It'll be a long time before I plan to play 72+ holes a week.

The first round last fall, with Mike & Tim Finney was a very impressive 74 from 7,000+ at the TPC of Louisiana. I bogeyed 18 from 105 yards. I was choking, needing 4 for 72.

I left the course thinking how low I could go playing all that golf for the next 5 months.

I have played about 8-10 rounds since then. Planned to play 100.

Anyhoo, if you are a little "burned out," go watch an event you would have played in. Go watch people practice. Go bowling. Play Putt-Putt. Go to HotStix and get all geared up. Play Tiger Woods 08 on PS3.

Or...

Just put 'em up for 2 weeks...

Or...

Think about your old pal Brian.....

I might get to that 100th round next year or two. ;)

Hey Brian

You have a lot better excuse than I do!! Heck, if I was building a house on my own AND teaching as much as you do, I wouldn't even worry about it.

You're right though. I need to give myself a little break and not feel guilty about it.

By the way, next time I'm down, we'll play a couple of times. That will get you a little closer to 100 rounds.

Recently went through this.....

started questioning why I was so obsessed with this crazy game. Still playing, and playing better but....started to get a bit crispy with the whole obsession.

Pulled a muscle in my right side 3 Sunday's ago and had to sit . On Wed, 9 hole scramble night, I went up to the course for a beer and to hang with some friends. One friend asked me to ride in his cart with him for the fun of it. Did the same thing the following week.

That pretty much did it. Couldn't wait to get back to playing again!!!! Got to play twice this weekend and really really enjoyed it.

I went through something similar last year. Then I got sick June 3rd, and haven't played a round since. There was nothing like the feeling I had when I went to the range for the first time since that June. Now I can't wait until I can play my first round. Sometimes you just need a break.

I used to work in the insurance business and I compare it to golf. One day you literally hate your job and the next day you love it. Don't know any other way to put it...

You need to live in a snowy part of Canada. :) with no golf from around October until about mid April it becomes quite obsessional to get as many games in as you can. Trouble is it takes me a couple of months to get anything like a decent swing back. :(

This reminds me of a couple of years past... I broke my hand, and It was about two weeks into the injury when my dad took me to a golf expo, at the Florida state fair grounds... wow talk about an agonizing day. Having to walk around all this wonderful equpitment just asking me to mess with it... BUT ALAS the cast on my whole right arm said neh! up until then i didn't really think about golf... except when I went to the doctor, and the first thing I asked her was "I play golf, is this going to effect me in that sport in any way?" "no" she replied and a sigh of relief from me.:)
