Lowering Ball Flight

I went to the AT&T National yesterday and the big thing I noticed was how low they hit their shots compared to the people I see playing at public courses.

My shots are also higher than theirs and was wondering if there are certain reasons for this high ball flight? Thanks.

That's actually kind of strange because i would say that most pro's hit their iron shots much higher than the average golfer. One of the main reasons is due to swing speed.

However, what irons were they hitting lower? Short irons and wedges? If so that is rather common.

Something i did notice was that the greens, while firm, were giving up a lot of spin on approach shots. So the higher the shot that comes in the more the ball is going to drop and spin...a lot.

So it could have been possible that they were hitting irons a bit lower into the green to have more of the "hop and stop" action.

Lastly, if the shots you are talking about were coming from the rough, it's because it was so thick you couldn't spin the ball a lot and thus you wouldn't get a very high ballflight out of it either.
