Luke Donald drill...

On TV last night they showed a drill Luke Donald has been using on the practice ground...

He has a clubshaft attached to his belt buckle, It is horizontal and parallel to the target line.
Apparently the objective is to swing back and through (full swing), without the hands catching the clubshaft in any way..

Any comments...is this any good for us mere mortals?....

It teaches you to keep the club a little more in front of your chest on the downswing, there's no question about that!!!!

I've ruined a few belt loops with that drill in the past!

I'm tryin to keep the Club as close as possible, as I naturally keep the club in front of my chest on the downswing..Unfortunatley it results in a wicked Slice..

Patty, someone told me something a few years ago and I have never hit out-to-in since...On the downswing try and feel like your right upper arm always stays behind your right hip (it won't actually do it for the complete forward swing, but just the delay seems to stop the over the top move...

This may be one of Brian's drills...I don't know as i am on dial-up and can't view all the videos...:)

Hi Puttmad,

after a dreadful driving weekend. But Good Iron play , Thought I would go range to try your suggestions and focusing on keeping the right arm by the hip,.

Turning very slowly first hoping to hit the driver 100 - 150 yds. And BOOM i'm hitting a REAALLY slow swing over about 180-200 carry Yds straight.

So thanks for your information. It was on my mind though already.

I felt if I slowed down the swing then everything else would catch up.

Definately need to concentrate on my swing speed with right arm.

Thanks for the tip.

a bungie cord and a thin piece of pvc pipe about the length of a driver and placed around the chest also works well for this drill. If you overaccelarate the hands, ouch.
