Not bad for a 7 iron out of mud! You gotta be joking - it was the kind of simplicity that is borne out of talent, technique and hard work.

Stopping as near as impact (post impact about 4 inches), WOW! very nice alignment. Poor ball, it never had a chance, ouch...

Nice Video...

So what's the difference between what you do and what a tour player does...7 iron??

The technique itself looks the same to me. Am I missing something?

Most TOUR players, and other good players, FIRST open the face....THEN grip it.

They say that this is 'easier' because they can then 'make the same swing' to in effect, hit a cut shot.

Not me...when I want to hit a cut...I use different Hinge Action...ie I "Make a cut swing."

Also...since I have bragged about my bunker play in the past, I felt I need to show ya something...

Brian,

Nice method, I've used it since 1994. This is also the way Peter Croker teaches bunker shots. I learned it from him.

When I went to see Ben Doyle for the first time in 1987, he changed EVERY thing I did...

except...

I already did the bunker shots this way, and he prefers it.

Great stuff!

Brian, doesn't Ben use a similar technique for flop shots off grass around the green? I seem to recall him doing one on his video.

Yes, it's basically the same technique. Turn the face open, "walk around" until it's square to the target again, and swing along that open line.

OK, just to clarify. Grip like any other shot. Turn the wrists to open the clubface. Then rotate the stance and plane line to open/open? Vertical hinge?

Very Good Mr. Chang!

More like angled hinge.

And to clarify from an above post...my clubface at address is still open to the target EVEN after the 'step around.'

So basically you are trying to play a sand shot the way most hackers try to play a normal shot - by lagging the hosel instead of the sweet spot, which in this case is the way to 'do it right', because you have set your stance line open.

Nice shot brian....but guys honestly, you ain't seen nuttn' yet! ;)

You should see him hit bunker shots out of real sand, i couldn't put the ball in a position in the bunker that he couldn't get out. That includes droping the ball on the downslope and STEPPING ON IT.

Didn't make it very close to the flag but outta the bunker it went

Brian believes in a much more square stance and square clubface IF you're using the proper club.

In one the lastest golf digests the #1 player on tour with sand saves says the save thing. With a more square stance the ball will come out with less spin and roll much better with a better chance to getting to the hole.
