Manzella Matrix

If someone favors one end of the MM, is it unusual for you guys to move them toward the middle of the matrix to fix their swing, without moving them to the other end first? In what circumstances would you go straight to the middle, as opposed to the other end?

Hardly anyone goes from 1 side to the middle, most people always bounce around a bit until they get in the middle or slightly off the middle favoring 1 side.

For instance someone might start off doing never slice again, then they over do it and we move them to never hook again, then they over do that, and then we try and put them right inbetween the 2 so that they are in the middle of matrix.

Make sense?

Not quite as simple as that...

In its VERY SIMPLIST form, the Manzella Matrix is the Never Hook Again pattern on one side, Never Slice Again on the other, with a Michael Finney type swing in the middle.

Of course the Matrix itself is a LOT MORE complex than that, with choices that look more like a color wheel as I have mapped it all out...but that's all top-secret right now.

The way I--Brian Manzella--teach the Golf Swing....THROUGH the "lens" of the Matrix is VERY complex, so much so, that it would take me 5 hours to give a one hour lesson with me STOPPING TIME to explain every little detail.

In the end, it is like painting a picture for me, and explaining art is a little dicey at best.

I do what I think is best for the student in front of me at that time. The ONLY other factors are HOW MUCH time I have, and IF they are playing in something today or soon.

I have moved 1000's straight to their eventual "best" pattern. Some of thos where in the middle of the ManzellaMatrix, some VERY customized and not on the BASE FLOOR of the Matrix at all.

Helping a student build--or FIND--a golf swing that as close as possible to ideal for them is VERY difficult. Most teachers have PET PATTERNS and will really never know, because they won't TRY anything.

It is a PROCESS, and like I say all the time, is MUCH MORE like Gardening, then like building a building.

Hope this helped, but, it will all be in the book. For now, just realize that Hogan said "A straight ball is an accident."

Bigwill, sorry for butting in, but I also have a query regarding this matrix thing.

So the theory as I understand it is that you have slicing components on one side, and hooking components on the other side. But there are many golfers (some very goods ones too) that are not necessarily in the middle for every component (including Mike Finney I would argue). They combine some components which are on the Right side with components that are on the Left side. Another thing is, isn't the Middle different for every golfer? Rocca might be considered to be on the Right side, but I'm sure there are people using a similar pattern but are hooking/slicing it too.

Bottom line is that the matrix is not a linear thing, like a volume dial on my speakers. It's multi-dimensional.

Yeah, it helped. As a matter of fact, the line about moving people to their eventual best pattern is what I was trying to ask about (though not in those exact words). What are the determining factors in making the choice between moving them straight to their eventual best patterns, or moving them to a different part of the Matrix first on the way to their eventual best patterns?

Matrixes!

Leo, you couldn't be more correct.

For instance....The "Color Wheel" branches off into Single Shifts, and Triple Shifts, and all sorts of combo patterns, like A Never Hook Again-type backswing, with a Never Slice Again-type downswing.

But the basic Matrix is very easy to see....and critical to the MASSES understanding where the concept comes from.

Brian,

The book, done right, will change the world of golf instruction as "they" know it. We've been through some personal stuff together and I believe in your gracious and compationate attitude you have displayed toward me and others.

Your hard work and caring to "get it right" for all has been a pleasure to watch and read about. You will win the battle and the golf world will be taken by storm!!! Thrilling stuff!

Thanks for being here and to all your guys, too!
