Manzella Neutral & Setup

Hi guys, i've moved to a "Manzella Neutral" style grip recently from a strong grip and have been hitting a lot of straight pushes and push slices with my irons and sometimes driver (a long way right).

I've found that if i address the ball with the clubface slightly open i have a hard time closing it (hence the pushes).

I experimented with keeping the same neutral grip but aligning the clubface 45 degrees to the right of my target (which appears to be REALLY open)......... now strangely with the clubface setup this way i can square the face a lot easier.

Is this mental (as in i can visually see i need to close the face or else) or is it mechanical ?

Guys any thoughts?

Well not sure why aligning it so open would help you, it sounds like with a normal setup you aren't flipping and just leaving the face open.

However when you set it up so open you're probably flipping it closed, just a hunch though.

The reason why you are pushing and push slicing it is because the face is very open. You need to learn the twist away in the backswing and the twistaway in the downswing.
