"Mashing" with the upper body.
"Mashing" - Really banging down on the ball.

"Mashing with the upper body" - Using the upper body, at least somewhat diving into the ball, to assist with the mash, instead of using proper tilts, rotation, hand & club paths, and hip travel.

I'm familiar with this move, which, in addition, is not good for the back. My question: what causes it and where do you go to fix it? Thanks.

I know it seems counter intuitive but a steeper hip turn and steeper shoulder turn combined with a no "pop out" type back swing really cured me of the "upper body mash"
