Mercedes Suggested Changes - Your Thoughts?

Greetings ...

Should any changes be made to the invitational criteria of the Mercedes Championships?

Should it be a slightly more open event, yet still have very specific criteria for an invitation?

Should winners of the Mercedes, major events and certain other important events, as well as those who achieve certain feats in a given year, have the opportunity to play the event for a 2nd year?

Should there be a provision to replace players who withdraw (such as Phil Mickelson in 2005) before the event starts?

To help you with the above questions, I have created a web-page which shows both the current Mercedes invitational requirements plus my suggestions for a revised format. Here's the link --

Mercedes Championships: Current Format, Suggested Revisions

Thanx-A-Lot and Happy New Year from Frank-0-Sport

Greetings ...

Who among the 2003 winners group would have been automaticly eligible under the proposed changes?

Jim Furyk (US Open)
Ben Curtis (British Open)
Shaun Micheel (PGA Ch.)
Davis Love III (Players Ch.)
Darren Clarke (NEC Invitational)
Bob Tway (Bell Canadian Open)
Kenny Penny (3 wins, Top 20 in $$)
Justin Leonard (1 win, Top 20 in $$)

NOTE: J.L. Lewis (1 win, 28th in $$ - Mickelson's replacement) eligible ONLY AFTER Mickelson's withdrawal.

Sure, you can make arguments about Curtis, Micheel and one or two others. But overall, that's not too bad a group.
