I thought "the list" would make for a great thread.

Here's the list:


1. Copy EVERY PIECE of Hogan's grip from "5 Lessons" and turn your right hand a hair to the right.

2. Point the butt of the club at your belt buckle and your belt line toward the ball.

3. Copy the hands first "lagging clubhead" takeaway of Bobby Jones. The body pulls the hands. Do it like he does at first, then use just a little of it. But always use some.

4. Right Foot—then backswing. Left Foot—then contact. Swing the club back & forth, back & forth in the same place over and over. Count your feet out. You'll get it.

5. Flat left wrist at the top, like Nicklaus, with the left thumb under. Same flat left wrist and left thumb under as Nicklaus near the target, with the butt of the club pointing to the target.

6. At impact, have your left wrist slightly arched, your right wrist bent, but not as much as at the top, your right arm under the left, your belt buckle left of your hands, your left shoulder more open and more UP than at address, and your tailbone AHEAD OF YOUR NECKBONE!!!!

7. "SWING DEM ORMS"!! And swing the clubhead like Ernest Jones says. When the club is vertical for the last time before impact, POUR ON the right arm, but remember #6.

8. The Ball travels on the "D Plane" until wind and gravity have their effects—if any. The 3 points of the plane are the ball, the path of the clubhead at impact pointing exactly where it was going—up or down, in or out, OUT IN SPACE, and the line drawn by where the clubface is pointing—ala, a lie angle tool—OUT IN SPACE.

9. Perfect a true Ernest Jones-type "pure swinging" pitch shot with your sand wedge.

10. Buy a "TPM 1" style putter. Put like you pitch in #9 with a chip shot style stance. Watch the bottom of the hosel during the strokek and try to trace a straight line as if it were a light.

Never Complain, Beat their ass, shake their hands after.

Almost there with video, and also a patient of mine is hopefully going to take a static photo swing sequence too....

A question on these nuggets would be...

Near the target, does this mean nearing end of the follow through? Have posted what I think you mean...

You mention about pouring it on with the right arm and that interest me. I read some data where Henry Cotton would do what he called 'braking" the left arm by that he meant when the lead arm reached a position of about 45 degrees on the down swing he would brake or almost allow it to stop and pour it on with the right hand/arm/right side. I have tried this with every clu on the full swing and struck the ball pure with power and accuracy along with other fundamentals that you stress. I wonder if you have heard of this or used it

That is a great list.

On mine.....speaking of mechanics...........

I would definitely have:

-the grip (cept with interlock)
-pretty much the setup (maybe a few additions- balance toward heels, "butt out", lowish hands)
-for sure!! on LCT
-clubface control pretty much the same (cept take it back more closed for certain draw, increased lean, and wedge shots...+ learn the Full Roll Fade)
-6 would for sure be something like that but with "left shoulder up" ("diagonal"?) in there NO doubt aboot it
-"sCHwing dem orms" VERY possibly could make it ("loose shoulders")

"Left foot, right foot" I don't know yet...9 is a shot you need to have in the bag no doubt. (or some kind of soft pitch...prolly mid-sole)

I know I have been on this site a lot...but it's still funny how we do a lot of the same things. Mayyybe these things happen to be pretty orthodox/mechanically sound...?? ;) They work for me I know that anyhow. (but I learned from the best)

As for my 4 other additions- lots of things are of course still up in the air.....but knowing what I know this very second of this very day:

A1. Know the two basic shoulder turns- one a steeper shoulder turn...one a flatter turn. Examine the right shoulder to see the difference. For execution- always move the club with/monitor the LEFT shoulder. (or even the arms)

A2. Monitor hand path with each s. turn.

A3. Putting- see Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. Maybe higher hands. Right forearm controlled. Steep shoulders. Eyes over the line always. Pick a spot to roll the ball over.

A4. Hit up brianmanzella.com.............read the forum way too religiously.....:D

i think i know what he means, and i just created a drill prett much like it. literally about 30 mins ago it came to me!

my version.

1. set up normally

2. lift up your right foot for a mili-second. as your right foot re-plants, start your backswing.

3. as you approach the top of your backswing, lift your left foot up, and re-plant it just as you start your transition.

4. swing through and hit the ball normally with increadible compression!

how similar is that Brian??

Well I already own the putter :) Now I just need to learn to use it properly! :rolleyes: as to the rest I am feeling more than a little frustrated right now. :(
 
If I could write a message in a bottle to myself I think I would have it say these ten things.

1. Move to the south sooner. People actually golf in January!

2. Cherish every moment you have with family, friends, and those you love.

3. Superbowl winners 2000-2008. Broncos, Rams, Ravens, Patriots, Bucs, Patriots, Patriots, Steelers, Colts, Giants. Bet and win!

4. Buy Google stock.

5. Find Brian Manzella (he is with a guy named Ben Doyle). He has (or will have) the knowledge to take you to better golf. (ask about his message in a bottle)

6. Don't worry. Miller Lite is still better then Bud Lite!

7. Payne, don't get on that plane. 10-25-99 RIP

8. Y2K . . . Not all it's cracked up to be. But liquidate your assets on 09-10-01.

9. Instead of being average at alot of things. Become GREAT at one thing.

While I don't know if this is exactly what Brian has in mind, I do a version of this with my kids using grass whips when warming up and occasionally in the middle of a 5-hour ball beating session. We use a field just behind our facility and walk forward slowly while swinging the club/whip back and forth the same in both directions trying to clip the grass. The idea is that this will help coordinate the arms swinging with proper leg action. You'll get great coordination and rythym quickly doing this drill and you'll also learn to let the club swing from those shoulder joints. Oh ya - spacing is real important when you do this drill with others:D!

Seems like nothing new to me, but I´m known as a double-digit human being NUD...

Yup.....after playing today and thinking about it more.....that one's in for sure.

That and a lagging clubhead takeaway = Instant Throwaway Inhibitor without even thinking about my start down.

That drill has been around for approximately 100 years. It's been in at least 50 issues of golf digest.
