Mini-Carry: Garrigus

I think this is another excellent example of what Brian calls a "mini-carry".......

Notice the apparent correlation of the "mini carry" with the pelvic forward rotation in the transition.

spktho,

Could you describle the "pelvic forward rotation" a little more? Having trouble seeing exactly what you're talking about.

Sorry, "forward rotation"=my vernacular for starting the downswing. As his left hip causes the start of the counter-clockwise rotation of the pelvis to start the downswing, it appears that his hands make the "mini-carry" move.

Funny, I was just looking at this swing on tv. I saw him hit an iron shot in Phoenix and was intrigued by a couple things, so watched it slo- mo ~20 times..

1. His p2- p3 reminds me a lot of the 17 capper I just grinded on who hits dead glance slices and round house pulls. Weird pop out hands and abrupt LAFLW rotation.
2. Would love to see his 3D graphs. I bet his pelvic bend graph is sick and his accel/ decel profile in the kinetic sequence is SHARP. I love his "snap".

It might be you:)

What similarities do you see?

Obviously, I'm sure more experienced eyes (such as yourself) will probably see a lot that I don't, but here goes:

I see a "pop-out" type takeaway that takes the clubhead at least slightly inside the hands (Garrigus more inside the hands than Toms), that then gets lifted to the top to an almost across the line position. Then a slight "mini-carry" as the downswing starts. Hips open a lot on the way down, with a little down-arch into impact. Clubhead goes left quickly after contact, with the shaft exiting "lower" through the shoulders. Also, lots of side bend into impact, with retained right arm/wrist bend, and a late "line-up" and flattening right wrist.

More of a general pattern similarity, a la NHA.

Pay attention to what his left wrist is doing especially in the downswing as it relates to some of the recent threads. Interesting how he uses various left wrist conditions.

I mean besides all that:)

It's probably just the difference in power. I agree that both are an NHA type pattern.
Just kidding with you.

and add in how the left wrist and elbow got to the position at :54 to :55 seconds.

Was behind the 18 tee box this past week at the Waste Mgmt open in Scottsdale. He hit a BOMB that was a high cut. Don't know if that is his normal flight...but it moved about 15yd left to right (and really high). Guy kills it.
