Modern Golf Set-Up

I own a lot of golf instruction books, maybe too many.

Some of the instruction books that are older, Tommy Armour and Arnold Palmer, come to mind recommend playing from an open stance the shorter the club becomes. Both of these books generally start advocating opening the stance from the driver on down.

Worked for Lee Buck Trevino.

Seems like this is lost in the modern game and most players use a square set-up with all clubs.

I'm I wrong assuming that square stance is the norm?

Do teachers even teach a open stance?

You use the stance you need to.

Period.

Opening the stance on the shorter clubs and shots, has a few effects. It shortens the backswing without FEELING like it. It restricts the hips. It steepens the backswing plane. It move the impact point toward the back of the ball. It makes the plane line shift.

Etc.

Use with caution.

Good players have NO PROBLEM getting to the inside of the ball.

Especially Lee Buck.
