Momentous Heavy Driver - Hard to square up?

I just hit this 310 gram monster on the range to warm up and sliced this thing consistently. I can hook on command with normal clubs. At the end I tried to really release and the club and it still faded a decent amount. Any correlation between head weight/club weight and face closure rate?

I'm not putting this club in my bag. The club weighs a ton! Great warm up tool. Stretches everything!

You're wise not to swing that monstrosity... to protect your herniated spinal disk from further injury, even paralysis...

Save your spine for your old age, counselor.

Not surprising at all. The total MOI of that thing has to be off the charts making it extremely resistant to squaring.

I would be more worried if you could draw it. :)

I don't remember ever warming up my jumper shooting medicine balls.

Just imagine....:eek::eek::eek::eek:

If you could swing a monster-man 310 gram driver head, you could easily bomb it 300 meters with a normal 200 gram driver head .... just imagine!!!

(Logic of gullible golfer who buy these crap gizmos...!!!)

Swinging a weighted clubhead is counter to everything scientific about the golfswing kinetic sequencing. It's like reverting back to normal ignorance about the golfswing. Some people will never learn ....

I saw some Nationwide guys trying one out on the range a couple of years ago. They all sliced it. I wouldn't feel too bad.

Thanks. It's a great warm up club and I didn't buy it to put in the bag. I have to wait a couple minutes after swinging it (without hitting any balls) or else all of my clubs feel really light. It stretches me out!!! Really surprised at how it sliced. I try different clubs all of the time to fool around. 70* wedges, 5* drivers, etc.

The club is a hammer!

I had one of those for a while. I tried hitting it a few times but it never felt like a regular club. I still used it to warm up and stretch though. Now in the winter I swing a section of a weightlifting bar about once a week to stay somewhat flexible. Of course I have to swing that somewhat slowly.

Studies have shown that a heavy club will actually translate into slower swing speeds. Considering that the spine hates rotation adding a weighted implement to an already stressful move is a disaster.

Place your hands overhead (pack your shoulders (feel like your shoulder blades slide down)) and try to get to a parallel squat. These overhead squats are just one example of how we should all look at warmup: a way to greaten hip mobility, thoracic extension, activation of the glutes, transverse abdominal, nervous system...

Just grip down a little and get a reverse pivot going and surely you'll be sling-hooking that thing in no time cwdlaw.....

If that fails surely it should be possible to hit an open faced draw by dropping the ball back in stance hitting severely from in to out!

Did you hit your regular driver afterwards? Were the first few swings low duck hooks?

What does the Momentus heavy driver accomplish for your kinetic sequencing?

The golfswing is likened to a whipping, flailing, slinging action... with the clubhead being whipsnapped through release.

So how does the Momentus improve that action? It's like a stiff whip with a weight attached to the end!

If you believe it helps strengthen your fingers, hands, wrists, arms and shoulders, should you be attempting a dangerous rotatory motion with a weighted device... or should you be training each of those body segments individually?

Of course if you can conquer the beast, you can brag about your accomplishment and even claim it helped your golfswing... that is if you don't injure yourself in the process and get what you deserve.

Rapid almost ballistic throwing motion using an overweight object is detrimental to coordination because it changes the neuro-muscular sequencing. Yes, your golf club feeel "light" afterward because it's useless for a coordinated controlled golfswing. You may think it's good because it feeels good, but you are mistaken in your ignorance of human motor control.

Only individualized training of the body segments is beneficial. The challenge then becomes the coordination of the body segments with golf-specific training.

People who swing heavy resistance devices are not only wrong, they are ignorant of the scientific facts of physical training for golf.

But if it makes ya feeeeel gooood, buy it and brag (lie) how great it was for ya. :p

Hey Steve, what's your take on the Powerchute?

Powerchute is the ultimate in golf performance and swing speed training aid technology.
Powerchute's patented design generates shaft and clubhead resistance to significantly increase clubhead speed and driving distance while delivering significant improvements to the golf swing.

Even Jack Nicklaus is pimping Powerchute claiming it helps him hit longer in his old age... so it's gotta be goood!!!

Personally, I think it's a great device to strengthen your fingers, wrists, arms and even shoulders... but then you can also accomplish that swinging a baseball bat a thousand times daily....
