moving from a hitter to a swinger

I am wanting to learn swinging, not to convert, but just to diversify my knowedge and understanding. To go from a more shut hitting backswing to the swinging backswing of rolling the face more to the plane, my feel is wide open and weak. anybody else made this journey?

Indeed - learning both will serve you well. Rotation, Rhythm - giving up control to CF. Not easy to do when the impulse to 'add' through impact is a great one (even for the 'GREAT ONE' - Tiger).

Homer calls it rope swinging for a reason ;) - get out a rope and swing it back and through until you can really feel the Rhythm. That should help you get the feel for 'allowing' rotation - takes a lot of trust for a true swinger - and you'll need to get the "Rhythm of the Rope" to get there.

I did, and now i primarily swing.

how did i groove it? Chip, pitch, punch AND ESPECIALLY 1 armed swings with a wedge just like Daly does.

I do it to focus on the motion:

turn/cock/down/uncock/roll

Once you can CRISPLY hit 1 arm wedge shots with a tiny draw just SLOWLY put the right hand on the club and do the same motion.

Here is something I believe swingers do but the hitters don't, not that I can do either. According to swingers on the other 2 sites, swingers use the pivot to pull/drag the left arm and power package into the ground, then the left arm pulls the club out of the ground via the left arm blasting off the chest.

diggerdog,

Just to clarify here. The geometry of hitting and swinging at "Top" are the same. The club face is not shut, instead the sweat spot is on plane with the load on the aft side of the shaft. Swingers continue to end with the load changing the relationship of pressure point number #3 to the shaft (I will go into more later on this later if questions arise). For now diggerdog, just be aware the difference between swinging and hitting on the backswing is hitter's go to top and swinger's go to end, you can use different takeaways to get their but the geometry should be the same unless you use 10-5-E for hitting.

Generally true, BUT, there are Hitters who go to the End - Larry Nelson, and Swingers who stop at the Top - John Holmes.

Very good point, MizunoJoe, normally in a "big" post like that I have to correct myself for the exceptions. I do the same thing on the lesson tee a lot. The key point I was trying to get at for diggerdog is the geometry for hitter's and swinger's is the same at top. Also it should be noted the real differences between hitter's and swingers occur on the downswing. Punch versus Pitch elbow and a drive versus drag motion.

Yes, that's the important point for the topic.

Bray - I don't mean to threadjack here, but have you ever considered that it's possible to Hit with a pitch elbow, provided that you add right forearm roll to the drive? This is a way to get more "snap" out of a Hit.

Mizunojoe,

One of the drawback's to "hitting" with a pitch elbow, and adding right forearm roll to the drive is that you contend with clubhead throwaway big time. I will explain more if you need me to, but maybe we shall start a new thread for that as I don't want diggerdog and other's to lose my key original pont, the geometry for hitter's and swinger's is the same at top.

I will let you start the thread, I look forward to it....

Sorting Through the Golf Nut's Catalogue well MizunoJoe raises some great questions to get me thinking.
