My Driver Experiments

Hey Guys,

Re discussions of hitting down on the driver, I realise that the biggest cause of amateurs' woes with the big stick stems from trying to hit up on the driver...

When they do that, more often than not they hang back and cause the driver to bottom out way before it hits the ball, causing fat shots and tops and the skyed shot when this hanging back is combined with a outside in cutting action.

To dispel the myth that drivers have to be hit with a level or upward arc, I demonstrated to some range rats today that drivers can do double duty as a long fairway metal.

I simply played it much like a 3 wood and hit the hell out of the ball with a downward motion. Man, did it go... Also, i have changed the height that I tee my ball at. The top of the ball is just slightly above the crown of the driver. The trajectory and flight is just more predictable.

Hope this helps...
