I had a good lesson this weekend (non-TGM teacher) and was hoping for some additional thoughts on how to achieve what we talked about. Here's the faults and fixes:
Faults
- My setup was good but the ball was too far forward
- With ball too forward my head would be very far away from ball at top of backswing causing me to have to move laterally into the ball to hit a shot.
- In addition to moving forward I was also moving too much "up" causing me to hit mostly blocks/cuts (some snaps if I really flipped).
Fixes
- Move ball back and get more mid-body hands.
- Stay more over the ball with my chest and head in the setup
- Try and stay more over the ball and don't move so far away from ball in backsiwng. Turn more going back, trying to "feel" like my head and chest stayed over the ball, as opposed to shifting laterally.
- Same thought on downswing. Try not to move forward and up but stay more "over" and swing more around.
Results
The backswing was much easier for me to accomplish. The forward movement is pretty ingrained but when I really quieted my move forward and swung more around my ballstriking and control of the ball greatly improved. I played 9 that night and the last few holes concentrated on trying to drive my right shoulder/right chest down plane and around and it seemed to help. This thought/move may work but I do not really understand where I should be moving my right shoulder. Any thoughts to augment the lesson and drills?
