My NHA2 experience

....but first an introduction, given I am new to the forum

I am an expat Aussie living in Auckland, New Zealand. Plenty of good courses down here. They are always green, pretty cheap and nearly always empty. Y'all should come down here sometime.

I am sport management and sport tourism academic by day who wants a golf handicap of less than 5 (currently on 9). I have been lurking for a few months and have become (and remain) thoroughly enthralled with not only the D-plane concept but also the debate about it. I think it matches my overly analytical mindset.

I have a PHD student who is studying the 'sense of community' that exists within online sports forums. His particular interest is in endurance sports, so don't worry, you are not being studied.

Enough with the intros, and on to my NHA2 experience. Short story: It was the best $14NZ and 60min I ever spent.

Below are the before videos, made on January 1. Despite the swing imperfections, these were all 'very good shots', so this is as good as my swing gets.

I have since made two changes: 1) no more forward hand press at the address. I now understand that there is a difference between address position and impact position. Get the club shaft pointing to belt buckle at address. 2) lateral shift required as part of the takeaway. This avoids the premature and exaggerated turning the body which is turn creates an under-plane backswing.

The result? Well yesterday I was 3 over standing on the 18th (after leaving a birdie put on the 17th an inch short)..unfortunately I was distracted by Judy Garland, Brian Manzella and all the other animals dancing down the fairway and I finished with a triple bogey (courtesy of a attempted fade that turned into a big slice). I will get it right next time ;)

I know I have some other things to improve (e.g. early release/casting of the club during downswing) but in the context of NHA2, my next challenge is to better understand and implement understand the idea of 'laying the face of the club on the plane of the shaft' at the top of the backswing.

If NHA2 was a baseball, it would be called a home run.

Looking at your golfswing vids, how do you assess your downswing differential between your hip and shoulder rotation ... commonly known as the X-factor stretch? Is there much of an increase of an angular separation when your hips start their downswing rotation while your shoulder rotation lags ... or do your hips and shoulder rotate somewhat in unison as it appears on the vid?
