My Swing - comments welcome

Hi all,

If I'm reading correctly the recent posts to the thread about the policy concerning posting swings, it seems that it's OK to post as long as A) you don't expect Brian or his staff to comment, and B) you recognise that others may comment without necessarily knowing what they are talking about :).

I agree to A & B, and I plan to take advantage of Brian's official service once it's up and running anyway. But since it's starting to get cold here, and I'm hoping that my swing now shows some 'results' from the work with the Manzella Matrix that I put in over the summer - I thought I'd see what folks around here thought.

I took this on the range yesterday with my new HD2 (shot 1 over with some lucky putts and a chip in). This is a 7 iron.

Fornesis, in any of my lessons I am never too critical of the backswing. Did notice on the way down your shaft angle is pretty steep (later part of 2 seconds on the swing on youtube). Misses left or weak pushes?

I like the see the shaft angle more inline with the right arm there (flatter position), instead of steep. I cant post attachments but again it the second frame on the way down that I am looking.

Thanks, suns.

Yes, my misses are mainly pulls and hooks (not usually pushes though).

I see your point about impact shaft angle. Although it looks to me like the impact shaft angle isn't really much steeper than the address angle. When I look at this I wonder if I might want to make an address correction rather than a downswing correction, i.e. stand a bit further away from the ball - give my arms a bit more space to hang down and swing through (maybe even bend over from the waste slightly more).

Having not seen my own swing in more than 15 years, I was also surprised by the fact that I take the 7 iron all the way to parallel on the backswing. My swing feels shorter than that, but I also wonder if I might want to shorten it a bit - at least for short irons.

Then again, I don't really want to over-analyse and get into extreme tinkering mode.

Hmmmm....

I thought I had read most everything on the site here, but I was wrong.

I just read this article on setup and all I can say is that I am much closer to the ball than Brian recommends. The irony is that I am more bent over in this swing than I used to be, following earlier advice gained here.

Thinking about it more, I think that my proximity to the ball may also explain one other element that surprised me from this video, and that is that I'm swing more left than I would have expected (or felt). But looking more closely, it seems that I am so close to the ball that there would be no way to swing right except by flipping it. In other words, with a FLW and a swing to the right, my right hip would get in the way of my hands (or, being that close to the ball, I'd *ha*k it). So in an effort NOT to flip it, I'm quickly swinging across the ball once I get to it.

Sorry, I realise this is turning into some form of therapy with me talking about my own swing, but it's helping me and, who knows, maybe it will help someone else. And if someone thinks my self-analysis is way off base, then do let me know.

Just a thought, but it appears that with a touch of overswing you seem to lose a bit of coil at the top. Without you're core muscles engaged, you are forced to overuse the shoulders and arms. This might help cause you to pull the club steeply and out of sinc. I find when the torso assists carrying the club to the top, you can also use it in the transition, allowing the club a chance to float down to the inside before the arms really take over.
