Swing Video (How does my NHA compare to Brian's?)

This is my swing to hit a slight cut and never hit a draw. I bought NHA but i couldn't do it correctly(i don't think). After 2 years of working on this swing i very confident it will fade most of the time now. Let me know what you think and is this similar to Brian's NHA swing?

I see lack of footwork, hips closed, shoulders open, little to no coil, narrow backswing, a rising spine angle prior to impact, and a mostly arms dominated swing. But if it is working, who cares. You could certainly do worse.

A little pull cut? Know some good players who play that exact shot. They've made their swings/ball flights VERY repeatable.

What length is your driver? Maybe it's just angles, but that shaft looks long :).

Crikey! Is there a fairway in the middle of all those trees

That would be my guess as well mg...shaft too long. Tech, what's the miss with irons? With the wedges, do you have to aim/swing WAY left? Are the lie angles the same in wedges and irons? How's the distance with the driver? looks like you get it out there pretty good.

yes with wedges i hit way left, its not bad because it basically turns into a low trevino wedge. my irons are the best part of my game, i don't miss then much, but when i do its usually short right if the face gets a tad open at impact.

as far as lie angles they are all flat, my 6 iron is 3 and a half degrees flat, and my 7 is 2 degrees flat. i set them up kinda staggered like that so if i really need to draw or fade a shot i can either hit a soft 6 or a hard 7 etc. my wedges tend to be 1 or 2 degrees flat.

my driver i can get out there 290ish normally depending on my shot. in the video above i was trying to hit it low under the trees on the left and short of the trees right so that went 270. a big high draw i can push 300.

i agree with all of those things, but one reason my swing is so narrow is because i tore some things in my left shoulder including part of the rotator cuff, and the labrum, and now it just won't physically extend like it use to.

Cool. I dig your move. I'd say if you want to work on anything it would be getting your body to open up a little more coming into the ball, if you can physically, so you can eliminate the pull with the driver. That will then make the ball go further right with the irons, so you will probably need to make them more upright. Check out all the D-plane stuff here that Brian has written about if you haven't already. The other thing I'd say is to go see someone really good on the set make-up,the staggering and lie angles on your clubs.

Golfing on the IR is fun, huh?:(

Just throwing an idea out to you, but have you experimented with shorter length drivers? I'm 6'5" and play a driver shorter than 45". Found that I actually hit it more solid and longer with a shorter shafted head than do with the common retail lengths.

Ouch!

Having the wedges flatter than the rest of the irons is a common approach, but varying the progression through the set of irons is just introducing more variables. I asked Brian whether he thought I should have the wedges set up flatter than the rest of the set. Took him about a nano-second to reply, "Why would you do that?"

true, really what i do is just hit my irons, and if i can tell the toe or heel is catching a bit i bend it, i don't really care what they come out at, and it happened to turn out they are staggered, not really sure why.

turned out like this

5 2 flat
6 3 and a half flat
7 2 flat
8 3 flat
9 1 and a half flat
pw 3 flat
50 and 54 1 flat
60 2 flat

I would imagine, just a guess, that this is okay if the ball says it is and you don't suffer consistency on the course. The biggest thing in getting the right club set-up is on the courses condition you play the most. If hitting the low burning wedge for you works..why would you change it right? Having said that, I still think it's a good idea to get an expert clubfitter/clubmakers opinion on your clubs. As long as the guy isn't pushy and will sit and talk with you about it, it couldn't hurt.

Your action looks a little "old school" which isn't a bad thing. I see a lot of forearm rotation and a double cocked position at the top, reminiscent of Hogan's look. Most guys can't play dead from here, but you look good. If you can compress the irons, keep it up!
