I been having difficulty starting my swing and trying to maintain my hand path but feel more discontinued during swing. Any suggestions?

If you are a right handed player, turn back as if you are going to shake hands with someone behind and to the right of you--without moving your feet. That should take the initial popout of the hands away.

Does shoulder inclination in the backswing have any bearing on popout? For example does a flatter shoulder turn encourage some popout versus a steeper shoulder turn?

thanks for the info, I practiced the shanking hand drill on my lunch, it was hard to feel it without moving my legs, I will try to brush my thigh tomorrow at the range....

I find it does. Brian worked on my popout with an inside hand path and a left shoulder that went down and in. Just moving the hands in with a flat shoulder turn does not work for me. I have to really focus on the left shoulder down while the hands go in, otherwise I have issues with overrotating the lafw later in the backswing.

Something that helped me was making sure that my left hand was on the club properly. By properly I mean that the grip was under the heel pad and that there was an angle between my forearm and the shaft. #3 accumulator in TGMese. My tendency was to have my wrists in a slightly uncocked fashion. This would cause me get the club head inside my hands right off the ball. In addition, my left wrist would not fully cock and my left hand would arch a bit. Not pretty! This tends to create a lower hands look (think hunter Mahan, or Rickie Fowler...go Pokes!)

Try hitting some balls on a sidehill with ball below your feet; and try hitting some balls standing very close to the ball. it encourages a more left arm coming down.
