Living in the midwest certainly has it's advantages, but winter is not one of them! Here's something I came up with in my spare time that I think may help some folks. It's called "The Tylenol drill mat" (note I borrowed the reference from somewhere
)
Anywho, it looks like this:
It's some old carpet with a piece of cardboard taped to the top. The cardboard is a duplication of this Martin Hall YouTube episode found here (it's about at the 6 minute mark):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44fev4wqC6U
The T.D.M does a couple of things: 1) The cardboard provides instant flipping feedback. Place the clubhead in the cutout at address and make a swing w/o hitting the cardboard. Sustain the lag to avoid hearing the dreadful sound of forged (cast for those less fortunate
) steel against cardboard!
2) You can actually take a "divot". Now, I use the term "divot" loosely but at least you get the idea.
3) If you make a good swing the carpet moves forward (works best on non-slick surfaces) a little......but don't move your feet! Try and sustain the lag with a few swings as the TDM moves further and further left. This is exactly the same drill Brian describes in "Flipper." The further you move low point the more downplane that right shoulder goes and the harder it is to keep them educated hands ahead of the clubhead.
Carpet square: $5
Old cardboard: $1.25
Packaging tape: $2.25
Sustaining the lag: PRICELESS!
(note that all rights to the TDM are reserved!
