If it helps, you are definately not unwinding left enough. Your downswing pivot thrusts out to the right making the handle ride too high thru impact.

Your stance looks really closed in relation to your shoulders and your target line. That may be part of the reason that it's more difficult for your pivot to unwind left enough as doubled suggests.

i know i need to unwind left, but for me in practice it is hard to do. i end up going too fast with my lower body and hit high right shots, i can't really find a mental thought process to keep things in synch.

by my pivot going to the right, is this the same as standing up through impact?

as far as the stance i was attempting to hit a slight draw, but yes i think i overdid it on the stance.

Never Hook Again 2.0

Like many good players, you are now swinging TOO FAR to the right.

I am planning to shoot "Never Hook Again 2.0" this week, and I promise, this problem will disappear after working on those concepts.

Currently "Never Hook Again 1.0" is part of "The Movie - Volumes 1-4" which will reach "end-of-life" when "Never Hook Again 2.0" is released.

The other information in "The Movie - Volumes 1-4," will be replaced with the "Manzella Short Game Matrix 1.0" video, which is due to be shot soon.

In the meantime Tech9, keep your belt buckle ahead of your hands, and your hands ahead of an open clubface, and aim and swing MUCH further left.

looking forward to never hook again 2.0 i was tempted to purchase 1.0 the other day but now im glad i waited the extra little bit.

i tried to visualize swinging like david toms today, and it helped i didn't hit any hard hooks. i did leak a few push fades though. one swing i even finished with what i consider one of his trademark moves, the slightly off balance leaning forward and way left look, so it was encouraging

i figured out that while i can shoot decent scores practicing with my current swing, but under pressure and on different courses it just won't hold up the way i want, so i'll sit tight and see what all never hook again 2 has.

as a follow uop question, how should one "swing more left" without going over the top and without hitting it off the heel?

i have always had these 2 problems when swinging left.

Just a thought techie,
I eliminated heel shots when I re-positioned my driver at address..
With a large head like yours (and a high tee), it should appear to be set up behind the ball on the toe, when it is on the ground behind the ball.
Best way is to hover the sweet spot behind the center of the ball and then lower it to the ground..then you'll find how it should look at address.
Give it a try, it may help...

You may have had the problem before when swinging left because you are swinging better and the clubhead is extending further from you..

Available Videos

How many Brain Manzella videos are available for purchasing? So far I have the following 4 downloads: (VOLUMES 1-4 - "THE MOVIE"), (CONFESSIONS OF A FORMER FLIPPER), (OVER & OUT) and (THE SOFT DRAW PATTERN 1.0). Are there any other Brain Manzella material available for purchasing?

Thanks

Left side collapse

Aside from a strong left hand grip I think you're narrow coming down and then your left side collapses through the ball. This will have a big effect on your path in that your hands have not maintained their radius (they're too close to your body) and so will attack the ball from inside and make it difficult to swing left. It's too much of a path change to swing left from there and so your instincts will tell you that swinging left will not produce a solid strike.

The collapsing aspect is evident in your follow through where your left elbow is very low with a very acute angle between your upper left arm and forearm. This means you've swung below the plane post impact and allowed the right side to dominate the left. As a starting point thinking of nothing more than finishing the swing with your upper left arm parallel to the ground rather than down by your side will have positive effects on what happens before that through the ball ie. you won't be able to get into this position if your left side collapses. Have a feeling of the left side being stretched out and strong at impact and it is difficult to hit this narrow hook. Feel like the left side fights the right side and doesn't let it pass until the club settles behind your neck (see Hogan for a perfect example). Once you've strengthened up your left side the path problems will probably see you hit a few blocks but once you've gotten rid of the snap to the left you'll be able to maintain some width coming down and swing on a more conventional path rather than getting inside and trying to start your hooks out to the right. With a weak left side swinging on a good path would have made you feel like you'd hit it left to further left.

Even if it's not their normal shot a lot of golfers hit a hook this way when they get a bit quick and lose their angles and make weak turns.

Check out Episode #8 of the Brian Manzella Show. Brian demonstrates a drill where he throws a golf ball into the ground in front of him. This may help you get the correct feel during the downswing pivot. Also concentrate on moving your left shoulder as far from the ball as possible during the downswing. By swing more left, your misses will become pulls or pull cuts rather than pushes or hooks.

Also try the driver of the deck drill! I have been battling the hook as well so I know how you feel. I can't wait for Never Hook Again 2.0!!!! Brian any idea on the ETA for NHA 2.0?
