Greetings everyone!

Today, I became aware of this forum and have joined up. I look forward to learning here and answering some questions you may have regarding ball flight and launch conditions. Feel free to post away here.

It was recently that I have crossed paths with Brian on a special project and look forward to doing more of it in 2008 and sharing the knowledge with members here!

I go by the name of All4Golf on all forums. I have created and developed a product called OptimalFlight. It is a program designed to complement a launch monitor system with advanced reporting and analysis.

This past weekend, I have taken an in-depth look at the Wishon/Trackman optimal launch conditions on Golf Discussions.

I look forward to being here and participating.

Regards,
Todd

Who exactly are you and do you have permission from Brian to come on and answer questions that should follow protocol and be sent to Brian or his Manzella authorised instructors.

Can't speak for Brian, but considering how much Brian talks about launch monitors and 3-D technology, Trackman, etc. I am of the opinion he'd welcome your knowledge and insights on this forum. Again, I'm not speaking for Brian, just giving my opinion.

We are glad to have you Todd.

We believe in technology and science around here.

We are not SCARED of change.

Hi Brian!

Thanks for the nice welcome and I look forward to exploring new ideas here with launch monitor feedback.

We're at the tip of the iceberg of many opportunities for learning why things happen the way they do and possibly contribute to the golf world some new discoveries.

Look forward to chatting soon and getting caught up on things.

Regards,
Todd

so lets start.

do you hit up or down with a driver? lol

How about lets begin with someone volunteering their launch conditions with driver. Get 3-4 solid shots and PM me the numbers or send an export data file for processing to todd@qualitygolfstats.com :

ball speed
launch angle (vert + horiz)
backspin & side spin (or for trackman users (spin, spin axis))
resulting #'s: carry, yds off target, (optional: apex, landing angle, total distance, angle of attack)

Tell me what LM system it was on and I'll do a full run down on it.

Any volunteers? This data can be from an instructor or student and the actual source can be kept confidential.

Regards,
Todd

Welcome All4Golf, i am thankful you are here. You were probbaly the only voice of real reason on some "other sites" when outrageous distance claims have been made. For some of those guys, they should be hitting it about 405 nowadays ;).

Welcome Todd! I'm glad you found this place. I find this to be the most helpful source of golf swing knowledge on the 'net. Additionally, Brian gives pretty selflessly here. I would give you my launch data, but you've already done them.

I have had a number of discussions with Todd. He is a really helpful guy who truly understands the physics of launch conditions. Todd has taken any number of posters raw launch monitor data and given them "Trackman" quality analysis of it for free.

He will be a great addition to this forum.

Thanks for the nice welcome leek and Jim Kobylinski. I'm honored and humbled by what you have said. I have a feeling things will be very exciting here this year.

Todd

Angle of attack ?´s

In general, given that the typical amateur tends to hit up on the ball too much should they be playing drivers with greater loft in order to optimise launch conditions?

Does hitting up on the ball pre-suppose the clubhead passing the hands at impact? Does this compromise precision in the quest for distance?

No because the additional loft will likely cause more spin (risk ballooning and shorter drives). A positive angle of attack opens up the fitting options by going down in loft. Impact tape feedback will definitely be useful to learn more about where the contact is happening. For example, I have a 6* driver and hit on the upper center face freqently. If I was hitting center face, it would lead to very sub optimal drives and be unhittable with low rockets hitting the ground too soon.

This would benefit from further study from a TGM perspective. I'm not a technically TGM trained golfer so my thought process is a bit raw in the manner of hitting it hard and do it in a way to produce consistent results. Before the creation of OptimalFlight, my driver set-up was a negative angle of attack and struggled with pushes and bloody high rights. Now, I feel I have more control and previous issues don't happen that often -- when they do I know why. :)

I don't think an upward angle pre-supposes the club passing the hands at impact. I think it is about increased axis tilt. Once the club passes the hands, aren't we decelerating?

Nope.

According to Dr. Zick, we can be still accelarating, until both arms are straight.

Of course this is without the ball there to slow down the club.

Can you actually let the clubhead pass the hands with a bent right elbow? Feels weird to even try it. I guess if you chicken winged it?
