Nice article on pitching

Great technique. This looks like a great way to hit high soft landing pitch shots. But,in the caption, Roe states that his clubface is square to the path and plane when he’s at the top of his swing (page 4, bottom right pic). Correct me if I’m wrong: isn’t his clubface rotated open to the path/plane?

Yes, it is. Because of the rotation of the arms. He's just trying to say, "don't manipulate the clubface open or closed with your hands," I think.

Not trying to make it about me, but I love this article because alot of it is what I try to do and teach. Good stuff. His example of moving the club on a straighter path would make for a nice high VSP. Very accurate way of pitching IMO

There's an occasional Nationwide Tour player who practices a lot where I play who spends hours and hours hitting pitch shots with exactly this motion (maybe not as bent over in set-up). He tells me he focuses on getting the club in that straight up and down position.

Brian has told me a couple times now about how the twistaway like motion is getting the club too inside on the takeway on this shot. I am getting better but have a ways to go (from horrendous there's a lot of room for improvement).

I've experimented with this as I've noticed a lot tour players do it this way. Why does a high VSP help so much?

Good article...mostly well explained and illustrated.

Maybe a few too many restrictions for me (he is presenting HIS technique, I guess) but at least what he has presented is surely not wacky. It is orthodox. (and I mean that in a good way- not in a "this is the same old" way)

I like the "pro-pose"...and the full swing sequence.

PING Eye2...!
