Is Snead's right elbow too low for the SD pattern?

If anything, Sam Snead is probably the poster boy for the SD pattern.

No doubt, he IS the soft draw pattern. Watch that footage and tell me who could possibly swing the club better than that!

Hogan was efficient, but for grace and sequence of movement ol' sammy is the best.

Anyone also see a slight arms OTT move in some of Snead's swings presented in this clip ? I guess this is why his famous pulls happened.

Cheers

I remember noticing this the first time I watched the Shell's match. I think there is a very big difference between coming over the top of your backswing plane (which he does) and coming over the top of a workable downswing plane (which he does not). In fact, I've come to think more and more that coming over the top of the backswing is preferable to dropping to an excessively shallow plane, underneath that which is workable. Especially if you don't want to work it right to left. The stigmatism associated with coming over the top is misplaced in my opinion because it is only a bad thing when the downswing is put out of sequence and lag pressure is lost. There is an element of the Snead move in Hogan as well, just not as dramatic. And Hogan did make some complimentary remarks about Snead's swing over the years.
