No Divot

How can someone hit a 100 yd wedge off a fairly tight lie and not take a divot? The ball usually starts a little left and fades 2 or 3 yards. My grip is on the strong side, definitely stronger than Manzella neutral.

I assume one of the answers will be that I am flipping the club. Any suggestions other than what is on COFF? Does the strong grip allow me to flip and get away with it most of the time? If so, would a more neutral grip act like a check on whether I am flipping or not, requiring me to not flip to hit a decent shot.

Any thoughts would be welcomed.

I guess we can assume that the shot is higher and weaker than normal because the clubhead more than likely passed the hands prior to impact...if not, than a ball that starts a bit left and fades two yards with a wedge is a shot you should try to patent.

A firm tight lie and a soft/wet tight lie are two totally different things. I've seen plenty of players bottom out behind the ball with a wedge and hit a playable shot that on a wet day would require a wardrobe change.

If the shot is weak right, than you probably have poor sequencing.

Other than "not taking a divot", what is the problem with the shot?

You may hit it just as good or worse if you start changing things in order to take a divot.

It is perfectly acceptable to play great golf and keep the leading edge of the club farther above sea level than the ground. Less wear and tear for the fairways and the driving range as well. Not to mention a safer swing for you, especially off mats. I wouldn't change it for no reason.

The design of the wedge also plays a huge role in its propensity to take or not take a divot. Take away some bounce, narrow the sole and you will probably teach yourself how to take a divot with a wedge.

I finally took some video and I am definitely flipping the club. I always thought I was coming over the top, but it appears I'm in to out. Maybe that's why I flip.

I spent a swinging weighted club in the back yard and really concentrated on not flipping. It felt better. When I got to the course, I hit a lot of shanks. I guess I am flipping for a reason.

I would suggest the how to hit tour pitch by Brian great vid. Really made my pitches almost automatic.Take it from a guy who used to take beaver pelts divots.
