Brian,

Just want to say your SDP video is great and having fun with it right away on the course...:) Having said that I have a new problem with hitting the ball marginaly fat from hybrid through wedge..I'm a low handicap player who initially came from a Ballard level (shoulders, hips and knees) style and willing to practice to fully iron this out...With the Ballard style, I would maybe hit 4 slightly fat shots a year and with learning SDP on full shot I hit 4 shots per round a few blades of grass fat..The low point for all my fats shots is in front of the ball but just don't make it to the little ball first..

I don't hit it fat with baisc or acquired motion...I can hit 40 yard shots with my eyes closed and not hit it fat...

It happens under full speed with my right shoulder going towards the ball and with my mind in my hands, I just can't feel where my clubhead is in relation to the plane..Obviously it's under the plane..or maybe the faster (more pressure) one swings the more the clubhead goes down in TGM parlance and the faster one swings with level body parts the thinner you hit it..

In another post you said you might have 14,000 tips concerning this subject..I could use 10 more tips..If the answer is practice, practice, practice..That's fine too

Sounds like you want me to say: don't take the club back below plane of the backswing, don't lead with the pivot, and don't throw the javelin.

No. I do not have any agenda nor want to paint you into a corner...I think SDP & NHA videos are both fantastic!

Even with a striaght & a little left at the end divot using NHA, I catch the ball slightly fat once in a while..I'm just looking for some of your top 10 fatty cures..I'm struggling with the (up & down motion) shoulders parallel with the plane coming to and through impact..The more my left one goes away from the ball, the more my right one goes to the ball and doesn't give me more room.

For the last 30 years, I never once worried about good clean contact unless I was playing in very wet conditions..I have enough talent to hit trailing edge pitch shots off a cart path all day long using the Utley method. However, there's just something I'm missing and am asking for your help..Maybe I'll try not soling the club for tightist lies?

Check your club head speed and tempo with the fat shots. I bet the ball is to far forward for your club head speed and your tempo has changed from the norm with that club at that time. Using club head speed and tempo to help with your ball position, you will discover that if your club head speed is lower or your tempo has changed from your normal swing with that club you can and will hit fat shots from the ball position you are using for when you club head speed and tempo are at your norm for that club. Just get a swing radar that has club head speed and tempo measurements and you will improve your fat shots. More on this later. Time to Rock!!

I am pretty smart guy when it comes to golf mechanics.

I'd go so far to say I know as much as anyone, especially when you add how much I know about what other folks teach besides my own work.

But, you are the first golfer I know that uses basic and acquired motion and Utley's pitching method.

I am either on the right track (something is up), or I am totally confused.

Please elaborate.

Your ball position is too far forward, most likely SDP has you swinging more in/out than you previously have and thus it puts low point further back than what you are used too.

That's why I am very pleased to meet you as well...I've been to many schools of hard knocks.

Yes, for me, throwing my clubhead like crazy either off cart paths, sand and deep rough works great..but don't throw using basic & acquired motion..

However, I might have been able to answer my own question goofing around in the backyard today...Like I said, I'm just looking for a little room going to the ball..What I found today is that even though my right elbow is higher than my left going back, my right shoulder doesn't go up that much at all from address...Therefore if I only have a "turned shoulder", my right shoulder stays kind of level and goes only lower & I run out of space to the ball..

I think I might be on the right track back to crispy land :D

The norm tempo I was talking about was your normal tempo for that club. If it is faster than your norm the release can be earlier producing fat shots.

Bottom line is doesn’t hurt to move the ball back a bit to see if that will help. Working with a new pattern also can change low point for a while until you get use to it so don’t worry it will get back to the norm. It is all good.
