No Trackman in MA. It would seem to me that if you could control your path with some sort of box, headcover or shaft and keep it consistent then you could concentrate on the clubface to get the desired results. Too simple?

Don't forget about down, that is going to affect your path as well, I think that is the hardest part about trying to monitor your path.

I would think down would be pretty consistent in everyones swing. You could play with it as well, but if you kept that as a constant, keep path the same, then all you need is to fool with the clubface. Correct?

In theory, all I was really saying is you can't really monitor or control how much down you have with a box or some other contraption so you will always have an unknown variable. I think Kevin or maybe Brian has said that how much down is pretty constant on the trackman but it will be an unknown.

You make the adjustments as you are practicing to straighten out your ball flight. Don't worry how it looks on camera, do whatever you need to do to get the ball going straight. It would be a good idea to maybe have some impact tape on the face to make sure centered contact so that it is not being hit on heel or toe to straighten the flight.

If you really understand ballflight you can get pretty close; my "good swings" were validated on Trackman in D.C. at the first GTE. When i had a decent swing it was almost completely zero'd out and very straight which is what i have been known for anyway.

So if you REALLLLLY "get it" yes you can figure it out w/o a trackman it just takes a WHOLE lot longer.

Bill McInerney Jr McGolf Dedham has a Trackman.

P3Pro Swing measure clubface angle, clubhead path, attack angle, clubhead speed, and impact location. That's 5 impact collision conditions. TrackMan only measures 4, and clubface angle isn't actually measured, but "deduced". P3Pro actually measures clubface angle at 3 locations through the impact zone. If you just want good club delivery data, P3Pro gives it for under a grand. Dancin Dogg is cheaper, but doesn't measure attack angle.

You put metal tape on the sole. I guess you'd have to put it on there sqaure. The infrared on the hitting matt measures the clubface angle just before, at , and just after impact. The unit used at GolfTEC, comparitively, is flawed because it measures clubface after impact. On off-center hits the face twists, leading to "deceiving" readings.

I would too. But when the USGA, R&A, PGA Tour, PING and other manufacturers replace their Trackmans with it I'll get more excited. Certainly a less expensive alternative thats for sure!
