Normal swing/putting

I was thinking of pros' swings and their putting styles today...

Seems that most guys putt the same way they swing.....no?

Is this important (to do) (usually) or just coincidental?

Stewart Cink - OTT swing, OTT putting stroke :)

Not sure on all players but i haven't really noticed to be honest

Although Fred Couples has a smooth swing and a quick jerky putting stroke.

Ya I dunno man....just something I noticed....

i.e. more swiveling open/closed swing/putting stroke (and heel shafted putter) vs. less open clubface swing/stroke. (and maybe a face balanced putter)

Prolly more of a small observation than anything...and it makes sense.....if that's your tendency with any other club it'll be your tendency with putting.

Not sure if that means you'll always putt best that way tho.

I putt, chip, pitch, half and full shots up to driver the exact same way. I do this on purpose. It is less confusing and has a better rhytym throughout. That being said, I have been lucky enough to have had some awesome teachers in my life who have helped round out my abilities with other techniques (Paul Hart (GSED) just to name one). I have also benefitted from this site.

I don't think the average tour pro is particularly conscious about his game thus probably more coincidental.

Ya me too pretty much man.

Same clubface control anyway. (cept for thru the ball)

Just change a few things in the setup....hands further ahead, more extensor action, shorter swing (w/ more float [downstroke] loading), and more right arm thrust with short clubs...+ Angled Hinge...

...mid body hands, less ex. action, longer swing, wed. ring up. (sometimes, depending)

This is a good topic actually.

I used to really have trouble finding a swing that worked for all clubs.

i.e. compressing the short irons and controlling trajectory....and hitting the long clubs high long straight with no lefts.

I do a forward press into a lag takeaway. A slinging backswing and then hit the ball right from the top, clubhead first, down, out and through the ball using a horizontal release, with no concern for the outcome. :)

Hands mid body unless for a specialty kinds shot.

I use the pressure points in the hands to ignite the hips which helps power the backswing and supports the downswing. I pivot with all shots except putting (hands and arms only with same forwardpress and lag takeaway).

Sound weird?

UH OHHHH!!!!

Hehe...

So long as you don't actually throw it away.

Got that right!!! Luckily someone showed me what a delivery path is..... whew!!!

You know, I gotta tell ya, I was a bit skeptical at first (about 12 years ago) but in it's simplicity a ton of golfing truth came out.

The Putt is from the1950 LA Open. The swing is listed as 'Ben at work during his recovery from the car accident.'
