That is a hell of a swing standing horizontal... Im impressed...

I think brian means his hips come up and around in the backswing. instead of just around, maybe? because I know he doesnt mean the turn of the hips, brian doesnt mind a freely turning hips backswing.

Never mind...I think I see it.....

reverse pivoting somewhat. Not enough to the right. He's pivoting on his left leg going back...even though the hips are opening

Your right hip is moving towards the target too much during the backswing.

Put an old shaft in the ground so that it is in contact with the outside of your right leg and hip at address.

Now make a backswing ensuring that your right leg and hip remain in contact with the shaft.

But remember that your right leg and right hip must separate from the shaft at the start of the down swing.

Practice this and put your swing up again in a month or two.

Thank you very much.

Nice move!

I really, really like the way you get to the top.

I'd prefer to see you move towards the target with your lower half more on the downswing.

i was kind of hoping to get the shawn clement backswing look. i find if i pivot this way i dont come over the top as much.

i thought that your left hip should stay on its line the whole way throughout the backswing.

thats kind of put me down a bit now.

medici has been doing this as a remedy to his old move. he used to move more behind the ball, and then his first move of the downswing was him losing his axis tilt.

this move allows him to fall into his left heel from the top, and maintain as much tilt as he can.

we have been talkin over the internet, with him asking me for help :)
until he moves back up where i am, i will have to continue to just give him tips and swing analysis over e-mail, pm's and messenger. when he does though, there will be hands-on teaching and he will improve rapidly im sure. brian, if you would like to give your opinion, that would be brilliant

Think of your backswing as a gate...
On the way back, the hinges are in your right hip. On the way forward, the hinges are in the left hip..
Pivot AROUND those points and you can't go far wrong...
In order to pivot around those hinges you need to anchor the posts first.
So on the backswing you anchor the right post (put the weight onto the top of your femur bone, where it joins the hip....and vice-versa for the forward swing..THEN pivot around them...

medici,
This may help you clarify the above post:

Your right leg becomes the post on the backswing and your left leg on the downswing....

..

i still dont quite understand the diagram fully. ill work it out soon tho.

Obviously you can only use one hinge at a time......
On the backswing your right leg anchors and the right hip contains the working hinge...you "open the gate" around that hinge, which is now in a more or less fixed position....
On the downswing the working hinge is transferred to the top of your left leg (which is in the process of anchoring, by slamming the left heel or after a lateral hip slide, which stops above your left foot))....you then "open the gate around that fixed point hinge....
Clear as mud?...:)
Don't look at the diagram as a fixed in space effort...obviously the gate/hips legs are all going to tilt this way and that, but the thought principle is sound..
