NSA and my left wrist

Never really formally made a first post, but hi. I've been playing the game for less then a year but I've worked my way down to about a 13 handicap with a habitually open face (lots of practice). Dunno where it opens up, but it's not the grip. Usually I take toe deep divots and hit it a bit off the toe with my irons (helps me straighten it out a bit ;) ) and my tee shots can really go haywire. My pivot had recently just started feeling like caca and I figured out I was just a poorly fixed slicer.

Anyway, today I worked on employing Brian's NSA pattern and it has really worked like a charm. The twistaway and holding it down really helped me, for the first time today, feel what keeping my hands ahead of the clubhead and having a flat left wrist into the ball is like. I actually started hitting shots off the center towards the heel, and that NEVER happens for me. I would like to thank you for such an awesome instructional video. Took me 10 minutes to get the hang of it, really really.

I have a question, though. Is it normal for me to have a feeling of slight strain in my left wrist from holding the twist? It doesn't hurt right now, and I just hit 250 balls trying to ingrain it, but I felt definite pressure while practicing. It felt nothing like I have ever done before! I remember seeing the video Brian made about twisting the club in your hand to develop a flat left wrist, but I was wondering if this is along the same lines of just getting all the muscles in my hand to work right. Thanks again!

I think it's pretty normal to feel a little strain at first. Two things that can help are to make sure that you take the right-hand grip in the halfway back twisted position (like Brian shows in the video) and allowing the left arm to bend a little if it needs to. Also, if you lack flexibility/strength in the wrist, Brian has a good drill on Youtube to stretch it out.

Yea that's the video I mentioned. I think my wrists and forearms are just weak. It seems my problem hand is my left hand, likely developed it from the past 10 months I've spent flipping at the ball. Right now I'm just practicing getting my left wrist to stay flat through impact into the finish, kind of contriving it right now but I know it's for the better. Never really understood what rolling my forearms with a club in my hand through the ball felt like. I'd always wondered why people would say their forearms hurt after hitting balls when a shrimp like me could flip at 300 balls a day no problem. I broke my left elbow skateboarding a few years back and never got it properly fixed (cracked radius/funny bone), and sometimes it gives me fits.

I still don't feel like I have the #3 PP sensation, or I guess it's better to say I don't feel any real right hand force across the shaft. It feels almost like a straight left arm pull back and pull through. Maybe this will come later?

As you can tell, I'm pretty excited to be getting rid of this open face crap.

In all honestly your game would be better served by playing more golf; hit 50-70 balls then go play. Course is always different than the range.
