Heading down next week for the SEC Tournament at the dome. I haven't been to NOLA since playing their back in college in the early 90's. Any suggestions for things to do (or not do), places to go (or not go), and most importantly, places to eat?:)

Great post Brian. I'd also like to add that GW Fins on Bienville is an excellent restaurant. It's really hard to have a bad time down here. Have fun Mike!

"...the muffuletta. It's a big Italian round loaf, stuffed with a variety of Italian hams, salamis, and cheese, and topped with olive salad. A full one serves at least two."

Challenge accepted!

Dickie Brenans, Mr B's, Arnauds, Tommys, NOLA are some good downtown places. (well Tommys is in warehouse district)
Apple Barrel is casual place with good food downtown on Frenchman st.
Breakfast downtown great spot is Stanleys right in Jackson Square looking at St. Louis Cathedral. Great service Greta food.
Uptown casual spots, Parasols has great poboys and so does Traceys which is right down the street. Right off of Magazine St.
Ingnatius has great plate food at lunch, also on Magazine st Uptown.
Great breakfast spots uptown are Camelia grill and if line is too long go right around the corner to a spot named Refuel. Both great.
Those are at the corner of where Carrolton and St Charles intersect.
Ask anyone in town and they will know where those spots are.
Have fun, it's a great city.

Oh and since you will be close to the dome a good new sports bar is Walk Ons. Good spot.

If you are looking for good night life spots, let me know...

I had a few days there. Taxis, walking and Street Cars.

Walking tour of the French Quarter, starting at the Cabildo. Three hours later, to Central Grocery for a Muffaletta, Zapps Chips and a bottle of Barq's

At night I had dinner at Emeril's NOLA. There is nothing quite like Shrimp'nGrits, Herb Crusted Redfish and Jalapeno Cornbread Muffins along with Spanish white wine. The waiters walk your Lady to and from the Ladies Room

Cruised over to Frenchman Street where little bars have live jazz.

Next morning take the St. Charles Ave. street car Uptown through the Garden District and Tulane University to the Camillia Grill for breakfast. Chefs Special with Chili Cheese and Fries.

City Park Driving Range At Filmore Avenue and Wisner Boulevard

Dauphine Street in the Lower 9th Ward and walked the Levee.

Royal Street for Cafe Beignet drinking coffee and reading the Times-Piccayune, and antique shops.

The Palace Cafe for Pecan Crusted fish and Popcorn Rice and White Chocolate Bread Pudding.

Must see Saint Louis Cemetary Number 1 where Benjamin Latrobe and his son were interred after they got Yellow Fever.

Some say it is haunted.

Very impressive... the list and the memory.:)

Fedex just dropped off our tickets. Do you remember seeing a telescope store in the Quarter?

A very BIG thanks to everyone who offered help and suggestions in this thread and in PMs.

Our trip to NOLA was a blast. IMO, the best concentration of great food in one city. I don't recall a time when I didn't have crawfish juice on my hands, debris gravy on my shirt, or powdered sugar on my face. :)

Everyone we came in contact with (without exception) was as welcoming and friendly as you could imagine. The residents were every bit as fun and great as the food.

A big thanks to Brian. Because of the weather, it would have been very easy to slide our lesson at "The Turn". Instead he arrived in waterproofs with towels and TM3. Wedge help was my primary goal for booking the lesson. Not only did I get that mess sorted, I got a sweet upgrade to my full swing and got a much better understanding of what causes the tug and how to get rid of it. Throughout the lesson, the swing got easier and easier... not really sure how else to describe it. What he has coming down the pike in all these areas is going to help a lot of golfers this year. A lot. :)
