Ok, explain this one...

So yesterday at the range I noticed that my clubface alignment at address is off. Holding the club out in front of me, and not trying to turn my hands to make the face square, I noticed the face was about 10-15 degrees closed. Misses lately have been all over the place, but mostly slices and pulls (sometimes pull hooking). Big blocks with the driver.

I fooled around today with what happens when I readjust to have the club (holding it out in front of me) closed, square, and open.

Closed: I come into impact in a big block, sometimes a small hook.

Square: I come into impact reasonably square. Surprise.

Open: I come into impact somewhat open.

Why on earth does the closed configuration result in a block?

Am I instinctively holding off the release because I know intuitively that I'm gonna hook it left of the target if I let my hands go?

Does it have something to do with the sweetspot lag feeling?

Could this be why I constantly loop underplane, block my long clubs or hit tons of pop-ups with my driver?

Would this contribute to my toe in divots and severe difficulty hitting hybrids and woods?

Just curious...

I do that too, i think it's because you try to open the club on the way down since it's really close. LIke brian says, good players reacts to the club head.
