On the backswing, what is 'the feel' with respect hip turn and shoulder turn?

A lesson during the week identified that I had a very large hip rotation which lead to underplane takeaway/backswing...we had some fantastic results when trying to limit the hip rotation and maximise the shoulder rotation...and when i say fantastic I mean the best 15mins of ball striking I have ever had...probably an extra 10% distance and every one headed straight down main street...Dorothy and the animals could only gasp in amazement. It really was one those practice sessions.

I quickly appreciated just how non-existent my shoulder turn was...and what it felt like to have shoulders turn more than the hips...this is a swing thought that had never occurred before.

So assume that I am in middle of clockface hitting ball towards 12 o'clock (facing 3 o'clock, bum at 9o'clock )...the image I have is that the hips rotate from the initial 6-12 alignment to a 1-7 alignment but the shoulders are at 2-8 (and with a bit more flexibility on their way to 3-9 (i.e.a full 90 degrees). Previously I think my hips were at 2-8 alignment and my shoulders about the same.

The feel I have is that the right hip ends up resisting the shoulders...its almost as if the right hip is trying to push forwards but can't (because the shoulder turn will not allow it)...the right hip wants to rotate further back so that it aligns with the shoulders, but I won't let it, so the right hip ends up pressing against the shoulder rotation.

Is this images and feel consistent with 'best practice'?
What is your feel of the right hip at top of backswing?

Yes...but at this stage of 'learning' I have to tell my hips to stop.

I feel pressure on the right side of lower abdomen at top of backswing...is this good or bad or irrelevant?

If you have to "tell" your hips to stop, something is wrong with your motion. If you want the full benefit of Brian's "tour release", you're going to need to learn how to turn your hips and shoulders as full as possible like these guys:

Trying to chase a feel you had the previous day...works at most for a week. It doesn't sound like this X-Factor baloney you're feeling is good for your body in the long haul.

Do what works for you, if it works for you and continues to help you who cares what someone else thinks.
