Doesn't seem like there are a lot of golf movies. What are your favorites? Mine:

Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius
The Greatest Game Ever Played - probably my favorite, all 3 are very close
The Legend of Bagger Vance

I know there's Tin Cup but I haven't seen that in many moons.

There is a pretty good one called "A Gentlemen's Game" with Gary Sinise, there is a lot of non-golf action too but it's really good, prolly my favorite other than the obvious (Tin and the Shack)

There are only two golf movies worth watching that I have seen:

1) Caddyshack

2) Happy Gilmore

Perhaps the worst movie I have ever seen is "Follow the Sun". "Tin Cup" was almost as bad: truly ridiculous from start to finish. Haven't seen "Strokes of Genius", "The Greatest Game Ever Played", "Bagger Vance", or "A Gentleman's Game", so will check them out.

best movies ever.

somehow my wife couldn't get into it.

Have to be "Legend of Bagger Vance." My wife & I just watched it last Saturday. ( 2nd time for me, 1st for her ) She is not huge into golf, but she really liked it. If Bobby Jones was half the man he was portrayed to be in that movie, I would have loved to have met him - class!
Caddyshack & Happy Gilmour are up there too. Hard to not like a movie with a fight scene involving Bob Barker :D

Any opinions on "Dead Solid Perfect", with Randy Quaid.

Have not heard this movie mentioned at all.

It's not bad. No Oscars.....but it's entertaining. I liked it as well as Tin Cup.

I enjoyed "The Greatest Game Ever Played". Francis Ouimet was a very interesting guy.

I have to go with Caddyshack, one of the funniest and most quotable movies of all time. The characters are all great, my favorite being Judge Smails ever so closely followed by Al Cervik.

The funny thing is, I LOVE Caddyshack but am indifferent toward or dislike every other golf movie I've seen. Tin Cup annoyed me because Costner is Costner and Rene Russo has a jawline Kirk Douglas would envy. Bagger Vance the movie is a cartoon compared to the book. Greatest Game Ever Played feautured some truly uninspired acting. Gentleman's Game was close but ultimately hoaky and moralistic, despite a good performance by Gary Sinise.

When I think about it, I like like Caddyshack not only because it's hilarious but also because it captures an part of the game much better than the other movies. Though a comedy, it's portrayal of caddying and country club golf was, I thought, pretty authentic. I think anybody who's caddied at a club would agree. To me, what makes some of the best scenes so funny is how closely they mirror reality.

With all that said, Caddyshack 2 is the worst golf movie ever made, hands down, end of discussion. What a piece. How they managed cast Chevy Chase, Randy Quaid, and Dan Akroyd, and make a movie that stunk to extent it did, I'll never know.

Well, I watched "Dead Solid Perfect" last night for the first time. It wasn't bad it wasn't great. Some funny parts here and there. I don't see myself watching it again however.

The scene where he comes home from a bad round and his wife starts talking about a beautiful deer she just saw come out from the woods is classic.

In the movie "Dead Solid Perfect", you will notice the US Open was not called the US Open, The PGA would not endorse the movie and allow them to use the name. PGA was a lot more uptight when that movie was made.

I agree not a classic but at the very least entertaining, its not a waste of time.

Some of the lines from "Bad Hair" are great...also when the caddie is helping Kenny read one of his putts while checking out his blonde girlfriend are priceless.

How?

...

Never seen the BJ movie.

My vote goes to HG.

I tweaked out the muscle in the right side of my back (being left handed) I couldn't swing the club for 2 weeks, it was impossible... spent a year going to the chiropractor trying to loosen up the muscle and then strengthen it. It was a mess, I would be out playing, hit a drive and out of no where tweak it again and end up having to quit for the day, heck, I was off roading in a jeep and tweaked it...

anyway, working a summer on a drill rig is what ended up strengthening it enough to where I dont have the problem as bad anymore. However, I can still have days where its a little painful.

all because of a happy gilmore 5 iron on the range...:cool:
