over the top

I have made great progress with the soft draw pattern. I have been working with it for a month now. But as usual I lost my swing. I have turned into a over the top chop with a side order of ball bound. I was able to hit a few decent ones out of a bucket today by making my only swing thought keeping my back to the target as long as I could. My question is what is is what is the best way to stop over the top, and is keeping your back to the target for what seems like a long time a legit way of stopping it?

Although over the top is generally a result of an open clubface, keeping your back to the target is a great feel for starting your downswing as you move to your front foot.

The best way I have found in my own swing is to let the hands/arms relax and fall during the transition. But, this is only possible if the downswing is started by the lower body slightly before the club is at the top.

I second this... I have had problems with an over the top move until I made a conscious effort to let my arms relax more at the top. For me, when I get too quick and try to accelerate too fast I get too much carry and in turn an OTT downswing. If you find yourself trying to hit too hard from the top just remember to accelerate evenly instead of going full throttle from the top.

Thats exactly what I feel is happining, I get the club back, start down and voila its now flat and open. My trouble is I am so ball bound I cant seem to stop it.

I'll work on that tommorrow, maybe I just got sloppy with the hands because the pattern was so smooth and effortless, with nsa I had to use a firmer grip to add a little twist. Thanks
