2 things:

1) Thanks for making me really learn an on plane right shoulder...i can finally start hitting a normal draw :). I've been practicing it A LOT and it is getting much better.

2) What size/kind of grips are on your clubs i demo'd at orlando?

Thanks
Jim

Tom is traveling back from Orlando.

The grips are "Natural Golf's." Tom says it helps his hand pain.

For those who have never watch Tom Bartlett play golf, he is the BEST ball-striker I have ever taught. Period.

The Professional Ball-strikers Tour? Or the other one where putting, chipping and a variety of other factors are also critical for success?

To add credence to Brian's statement about Tom, on the last day of the Orlando school we played some golf. On the back 9 (15th hole, maybe?) Tom decided to cut the corner (this decision was made after Brian took his cart down and made sure the area was clear) and then Tom proceeded to hit the longest drive I've ever witnessed in person. Some 350+ yards-it was awesome!

If carts were used, you weren't playing golf, you were playing cart polo. [:p]

Garth-

If you want to see a real one plane swing, with the kind of rotation (pivot, in TGM) that is what that type of swing is all about, check out the videos of Tom in the "Swings" forum; the thread is on page four.

Erik. Was that the par 5 on the Panther course where it's a hard dogleg and on the left it slopes down to the water? It is 14. If he cleared that hill on the right then that is one hell of a poke. From the back tee's?

Jeffy, i just took a look. Swing looks pretty good, but he keeps the clubface closed throughout the entire swing. I realize these are old videos though.

Garth-

A few comments:

1) Brian, Tom and other TGM-ers would argue, correctly, that Tom's clubface is not closed, it is just less open than players who incorporate more clockwise left arm rotation in the backswing, or do not have as flat a left wrist.

2) Hardy likes a "closed" clubface in his model one plane swing; that was one of the elements I had in mind when I described Tom's swing as a "real" one plane swing.

3) So what if it is "closed"? So was Trevino, and many, including Nicklaus, rank him up there with Hogan as a ballstriker.

4) In TGM terms, Tom is a "hitter", and hitters tend to keep the face of the club looking at the ball in the backswing, creating the "closed" look.

In person, Tom has one amazing pivot.

I think we played Crooked Cat on Sunday; we played from the blue tees.

1. Semantics ;)
2. Fair enough, I just don't like it personally.
3. Trevino's a tough example to try and follow. I love his swing for what it was (His own), but he had a Huge shallowing move that allowed him to have the face "less open".
4. I'll take your word for it, but doesn't that eliminate one of your Accumulator thingys' [:p]

I'm sure he does have a great pivot, like i said, I did like the swing overall.

AGREED.

WELL, TOM DOESN'T LIKE HITTING CROOKED SHOTS, SO HE PUTS UP WITH IT...

HIS SWINGPLANE IS SHALLOW TO BEGIN WITH; HE FADES IT BY MAINTAINING THE BENT RIGHT WRIST AND BOWED LEFT WRIST THROUGH IMPACT...

NO, IT DOESN'T.

I THOUGHT YOU WOULD.

I think Jeff was correct when he said what hole/course it was. Good Lord, that was one HELL of a drive!

Hue, I alslo played with Tom at the Panther Lakes course when he shot a neat 4 under. I agree with Archie that it could have been less. Tom hits the hell out of the ball but with good control and balance. It was one of the most impressive displays of ball striking that I got too witness up close.

I only played with Michael Finney a couple of hole in Canton and although he is long, he is not as long as Tom.

As for your guestion about how big he is, he is not tall, but stocky and very strong.

STOCKY? Thanks JP you are kind. I used to hit the ball further when I was less stocky (a lot less). As far as playing...I'm looking for sponsors:D. It takes a lot of cash, skill, luck and timing to get on tour. I have quite a few "battle stories", but I won't burden you with them. Hope to take another shot at it real soon if I can get back to my fighting weight.

Jim,
Brian was right. Natural golf grips for mild arthritis in right hand. I put them on two days before Orlando.

Glad to hear that you are working on your swing and it is coming along.

I had fun working and playing with all of you in Orlando. Thanks for the compliments. Hope to see you all again someday.
