Pitching question

I was playing today and tried to do what I think might be a mid-sole pitch. Before, I would really try to mash down on a pitch-chip shot, much like any other iron, and get poor results. Today, on my pitches, I felt like I kept my address hand condition (bent left wrist, almost vertical clubshaft) through the swing into impact and make sure I pivoted to swing left. The pitches I made were about the best/most consistent ones I've ever done. I guess my questions are 1) is this the mid-sole pitch 2) if not, am I just timing a flip? If yes on 2, I'm going to abandon it altogether.

i don't think there is anything wrong with what you describe, especially if you can hit a "leading edge" shot. problems arise when the no lean shot is what you hit on all full swings.
when your lie is good enough, this is a great shot. most pros do more scraping than digging on pitch shots, too.

have you seen "over and out?"

The mid-sole pitch...

has a flip element to it...the club finishes in line with the right arm. Did u feel like u scraped the middle of the sole on the carpet vs. the leading edge? Face slightly open?

Why would you abandon it if gave you the best and most consistent results ever?

Probably because I worry about timing that flip. Bill, I set up square face and sqare stance and tried to have the shaft up and down vertical. Every time I've tried to open the clubface and stance, I tend to shank that puppy. Danny, thanks for reminding me about "Over & Out". I didn't pay enough attention to his pitching section, but BM does show the mid-sole pitch with open clubface. He did mention that Tom Bartlett does it square. I guess I'll keep trying it until I can get down to Louisville for another lesson.

When i execute and demonstrate the mid sole pitch it is basically just like the hands-leading leading edge pitch BUT you do it essentially with a more bent left wrist so that the club slides more under the ball and you contact the ground with the middle of the sole.

That's about it, don't complicate it too much
