pitching question

ok, i've come to believe that swinging may be best for me, but have a question on the pitch. from what little i gather, to me it is getting the right elbow more into the center of my body rather than hanging back on the hip.
now here is where my question comes in. on the downswing, should i make the move with the elbow to get it in front, or what is a better and more correct method?
also, is there just a flat out easy way to get the club to drop? in brian's third movie clip, he said it can be done a couple ways. if i'm working on this ptich position, which would be a preferred way?
thanks to everyone

If at the top/end of the backswing you start your downswing with a bump of your hips parallel to the target line, w/o moving the shoulders, you will find the club automatically drops into the slot. You don't have to think about it. It just happens.

i have a problem getting the clubhead to get to the ground. should this be done by pushing or pulling. there is something that i must do to prevent it from just coming down. i tend to think i want it to go forward first.

The best way to get into the pitch position on the downswing is to have a backswing where the right elbow is in the pitch position. here is a picture of tiger with his arm in the pitch position on the backswing. http://www.golfdigest.com/photos/ph...n/slide-show.cgi/golf/ad.ssf?index=3&g_id=182
Try setting up in a simulated impact position with you elbow at the pitch position. Now bend your elbow and raise your right arm off your chest like you would in a backswing but dont turn your shoulders or hips so you are still faceing the ball. notice the angle of your right arm it should be very similar angle as the tiger picture pretty much pointing to the ground. Now just bring your elbow back to your chest your hands will drop aproximately 8 inches or so depending on how far you seperated your right elbow from your chest. That is the same move you make in the backswing as you transfer your weight. Try the same drill with the arm in the punch and push postion and you can see how it afffects the backswing arm angle. The old adage is bump your hips and that will bring your arm back to your side on the downswing, i say this works for a select few if it isnt happening make it happen until it becomes natural those two moves should happen together automatically that is the most important part of your downswing because after that you can spin your body as hard as you want and release that pitch elbow and left and right wrist through impact for maximum power. Btw when i say release the back of the rigth wrist that is what every power hitter does they go from maximum right wrist bend to flat right wrist but the flattening is happening through impact not before it.

pieman,

This may sound unconventional...........

I use the left thumb as a pressure point to push the clubhead down into impact. This is an uncocking motion that move the shaft into line with the left arm. No real timing involved.

From there you can choose whatever hinge action you like for the shot at hand.

I find this extremely effective.
