Pitching with Bounce

I have had terrible results trying this shot.

Blade , Dig , Skull.

I purchased a sand wedge with more bounce.

What's the secret

I think it helps if you are/were a bit of a flipper. I have no problem with this shot. Now taking nice divots forward of the ball with my full iron swings...that's a problem. This wedge shot really helped me because I was always hitting this type of shot but thinking I was doing something wrong, ie. not keeping my hands well ahead of the clubhead and taking divots well past the ball.
I'm not sure but I think more bounce in your wedge may actually make this shot harder. If you have more bounce you really only have to swing the club and let the bounce take care of not digging into the ground. If you try to 'help' this you may be getting the club to actually bounce off the ground and into the back of the ball (ie. skull). Just swing the club head and don't try to hang onto the handle. Hope that helps.

I just moved to AZ this year and had to learn to stop driving the shaft ahead because I would end up with the ball not checking on the firm greens. Before I basically slammed it down hard and got tons of spins on soft bentgrass greens.

The thought I had to get was to slowly swing the shoulders through. No need to "do" anything with my hands...just let the club work naturally and quietly.

try to keep the butt end of the shaft pointing to your belt buckle throughout the whole shot, including the follow through and finish with the club shaft vertical.

The key is to "thump" the ground under the ball with the back of the club. That will let you use the bounce but avoid the blade, the dig and the skull.

A valid alternative is just to hit it normally.;) No mega shaft lean and no mega bounce. Now, what's wrong with that bouncelovers?;)

Always been a handle dragging leading edge wedge player.
Any one remember drag your wet mop?

Trying to shift to mid-sole or bounce player.Feels like I'm relearning the game.

I had the opposite problem. Ben Doyle would tell me to mop drag, I'd take a swing and claim, "That was a good one.", we'd look at the video and my hands at impact would be right over the ball. Perfect for this pitching-with-bounce motion but not so good for everything else (minus the driver and the putter). I just think you have to hit a lot of balls to control where your hands are at impact. Sometimes you want them ahead of the ball and sometimes even with the ball. I guess with a flop you may even want them slightly behind the ball at impact. That takes some time. Ben always said (and I didn't understand it the first few times), "Keep your mind on your hands and your eye on the ball." My mind and eyes were always on the ball.

Yes I like this
Don't need to think about bounce at all when "pitching" near the green
Just think about bounce with flops and lobs

One of the main reasons I've been working on this is the safety factor.

Done properly you can hit behind the ball and still get good results and playing courses with tightly mown lies.

Paul Azinger would practice and see how far behind the ball he could hit and still get good reuslts.

This really interested me.
