Planes vs. Patterns?

In Brian's blog on Tiger and Phil, he mentioned in a reply that it is difficult for a natural elbow planer to switch to the TS plane and for a natural TS planer to switch to an elbow planer. Do certain patterns favor certain planes, or could either plane work equally well for the same pattern?

I've had a physical issue, that when healed, will have kept a club out of my hands for nearly a full year. When I'm cleared, I'd like to restart fresh with a de-junked, naturally compatible pattern to get me competitive hopefully sooner rather than later.

Yes.

and

Yes.

Patterns, per se, have a SPECIFIC plane angle "variation." Just like a song has a specific, written chord progression.

But, some patterns will work as good, or almost as good—as written—with a different through-the-ball plane.

I'd start with Soft Draw.
