Please look at my swing

I had the great fortune of playing Valhalla here in Louisville, KY last Friday. One of the guys I was playing with took a picture of me doing a practice swing on the tee at 18. This is the first time I have really seen my swing. Can you guys give me any feedback on how it looks...any changes...what's right/what's wrong.

I did step up and hit a 270ish yard drive into the left bunker..on the green in three...and three putted!

Thanks for your feedback.

I cannot figure out how to make the image appear in my post. Sorry for having to create a link.

Welcome, but I don't think you are going to get much advice with just a picture of the top of your backswing. Have a sequence or video?

Sorry...I sure don't. Like I said, this is the first time anyone has ever taken a pic of me swinging. I just thought that I might get some feedback...like my arm positions, hip turn...things like that. It does look like my left arm is straight...so that is a positive.

Do you live in Louisville? If you do then i would strongly suggest booking a lesson with Brian if you want to improve your swing. Many people wish they lived closer to Brian.

Doesn't seem to me that your left arm is as straight as you imagine, which could be due to camera angles maybe. But, maybe not!

You also have issues with the relationship of the back of your left hand with the club face, hence the bunker result when you fired off.

If you are local, go see Brian.

you say you put in that bunker on the left. do you usually miss it left? pulls or hooks? theres an obvious cause for that if you do ... ;)

About 1 out of every 10 drives will be a hook. I usually hit it with a slight draw...if I swing slow enough. I sometimes get a little excited at the top and swing way too hard.

I would love to...but he is a bit pricey. I could probably afford something more like $40 for a half hour. Playing Valhalla has no bearing on how much I can spend for lessons! Just ask the wife...LOL Valhalla was a special treat.

OMG, someone that lives in Louisville, comes to this site, yet won't go get a lesson from the man we bow down to. Unbelievable.

Maybe the next time you get a "special treat" you go see him. You are VERY lucky!

I guess not everyone is the hardcore lapdog you are Curtis.

Spaceace, your at the top position looks good, other than your clubfaced being closed since it's almost completely facing the sky. David Duval played with a clubface like that and was the best player in the world at one point but he had to rotate his body and not his hands through impact to play like that. So you could try to do that or since you probably grip it a little too strong with your left hand you could try making it a little more neutral and then you could have a free-er release with the hands through impact without fear of hooking.

Valhalla must have been a lot of fun. Especially since now you get to watch the Ryder Cup and really know what the players are facing since you've been there.

Thanks for the tip...that was what I was hoping for. That someone would see an issue and help me. I had no idea that I swung with a clubface that was closed. I will work on making my grip more neutral. I made a change this year with my grip and it has helped me hit the ball better (trying to copy Tiger's grip). I used to hold it more like a baseball bat. My handicap is 15...so I do hope to someday go down!

If you have more tips...or anyone...that could help me not close the clubface so much, I would certainly appreciate it. If I swing too hard, I tend to fall back and then hit it to the right.

Yes, playng Valhalla was a TON of fun. It was basically a dream come true for me. It was the last day a non-member could play before they shut the course down.

To CURTIS: I found this site by looking for some golf tips. I have read some great things on here...and maybe someday I can convince the wife to let me spend that much money on some golf lessons. Or maybe Brian can give me a coupon! :)

Spaceace,

Take Chris' grip suggestion....what you'll find is you then don't have to fight the clubface and you can swing as hard as you like (but keep in BALANCE!!) and the face will take care of itself....:)

If it doesn't, come back with your findings and we can take it from there....:D
